Loud Spining Rattling Roise In Neutral

Hi guys my evo has about 5400 miles on it now, and I just noticed
whenever my car is in neutral I hear this LOUD spiNiNg RATTLING noise coming from the tranny area. The noise gets even louder when my A/C is on, but once I depress my clutch alll the way down the NOISE disappears right away but let go the clutch it comes back again. I brought it to my local mechanic and he said its something with the bearing in the clutch, but the car drives fine and doesnt seem to have any problems at all besides that noise. Is this NORMAL on the EVO ?cuz i heard many people said AWD makes all kind of weird noises.

Mine does the samething. Its not really loud...but its definitely noticeable. Seems like its getting worse lately as well.

I think it is directly connected with the decelleration noise.

Does your car do that as well?

I have the same rattling hollow noise, but it only happens during decelleration. No problem in neutral yet, but then again, my car only has about 500 miles on it.

Hmmm.....that is strange. I know that there is something similiar going on with the 350Z's sort of a wierd winding down noise that comes from the transmission.

that noise is the throw-out bearing. mines been making a little racket since new. I am going into the dealership in the next few days to let them know about it, and if yours is as bad as you claim, you should too.

I have the same rattling noise stopped in neutral, with the noise getting louder with the AC on, and disappearing when the clutch is depressed. Not sure if this noise is within tolerance, but appears to be associated with the throw-out bearing? I will notify the dealer on my 1000 mile preventive oil service.

FWIW, the 80s BMW I owned made a similar noise, which went away when the clutch was depressed. My friend still drives it, I think the clutch made it to over 100K. I had another car (sorry, can't revealed the brand) where the clutch literally self-destructed when I got the car back from the dealer after routine service. Don't know if it was part failure or the activities of the dealer. I am actually hesitant to bring the car into a shop because you never know what people do on an after service road test.

Has anyone asked MMC or dealer that if we change to a Ralliart clutch (or similar), the other drivetrain components would remain covered under warranty?

Cheers.

I just made a appointment with my dealer this wedsnady, and see what they say. But the thing is SOME TIMES the noise just DISAPPEARS for no reason and comes BACK aagin not sure why.
So even if i bring it back to the dealer and the noise disappears then I am screwed.

Does anyone have this same Problem and the DEALER actually FIXED it. Because I hate leaving my car at the dealer, cuz 90 percent of the time they just gonna tell you theres no problem unless your car REALLY broke down then they will fix it.

I never knew there was a ralliart replacement clutch. Thats interesting.. I'd be willing to pay for the upgraded part, if mitsu was willing to provide the labor and cover it under warranty.

First if your mechanic didn't know what it was, don't go back to him.

It is the Throw out bearing. When in nuetral with the clutch engaged it is spinning with the motor. There are a lot of noisey TO bearings out there in a lot of cars and it is perfectly normal to hear some noise. Now of course if it is really loud then you may have a problem, but I do mean really loud. When the car is in gear and you are moving, you can't hear it because of all the other noises. I have heard cars do it with brand new TO bearings. Some noise is absolutely normal.

So its normal for our EVO to have this THROW ouT bearing noise?
But I just attent a EVO meeting in my area and I noticed none of the EVO have this BEARING noise. That is why I got so paranoid,
especially on a brand new car I dont understand how it can make that kind of noise. I used to have that noise also on mine 3000GT SL but the car was like 80k miles so I figured its ok that the throwout bearing is making noise. But on a BRAND NEW EVO with 5400 isnt that too quick to start hearing the noise?
