Question RPM jump then drop/Boosting then Dropping

So I hope im posting in the right forums. I did my search and I found similar problems, but not exactly, and maybe its time for a new clutch because of clutch slipping?

Problem: Any time I give it gas, usually during 4th or 5th gear when I'm crusing to accelerate, my RPM will jump around 500-1500 rpms, drop back down, and then continue when I hold the pedal down. My boost will jump to ~1.4 bar, drop down to maybe 1 bar then stay at around 1.3bar.

Basically my car accelerates, stops, rpm jumps up come back down and continue again.

New clutch or need to pull some timing?

Thanks

my old evo 8 did the exact same thing. I assumed it was the clutch. Ended up trading the car in like that.

Anytime the RPM goes DOWN while you're stepping on the accelerator, you can be sure it's the clutch holding on for its dear life, lol.

4th and 5th have the most load and this problem presents itself there first.

Yep clutch for sure. Mine is doing the same thing currently and I am taking my car down to Full Function Technologies in the bay area to get it replaced on Wednesday (still need to schedule an appointment).

Yes indeed you need a new clutch. My car was doing that exact same thing. The angel on my shoulder was hoping it was just a boost issue, but the devil on my other shoulder knew it was the clutch... Just had it replaced Saturday.

Hi, just wondering if the issue was solved, was it a clutch issue? I’m having the same issue now on my evo8. Thanks
