Keep Blowing Fuse Number 8 - Help
Keep Blowing Fuse Number 8 - Help
Hi,
I can't figure this out. The fuse #8 keeps blowing and each time it does, the car dies completely and restarts when a new fuse is inserted. I'm getting about 4-5 miles per fuse.
Car is an '05 VIII with TBE, test pipe, intake, flash/tune, EBC, turbo timer. Had an O2 sensor CEL which is now popping. Each time the fuse blows the CEL resets.
Could this be related to the O2 sensor CEL? I haven't had an opportunity to get under the car and look at what exactly has failed on the O2 sensor. I don't know if it's the wiring or the bung or what.
What circuits does fuse #8 relate to? Anyone ever had this problem?
Thanks.

I don't mean to spam my own thread, but I keep searching and found this little gem:
Check the fuse for the ECU and see if it's blown. If it is, and it keeps blowing everytime you attempt to start the car with a new one, then you may have dammaged your O2 sensor (or wiring) and the ground fault is blowing ECU fueses. The car will crank, but not start. Replacing the O2 sensor with a known good one is a good remedy if this is indeed your problem.

This sounds exactly like the problem I'm having. The ECU fuse is fuse #8, correct?? Fuse #8 is the one that keeps blowing up on me. And it seems to correlate with my O2 sensor failure, as I recently installed a Greddy Evo2 exhaust and the bung for the O2 sensor was a tight fit up against the body of the car. My guess is that the movement of the exhaust under load had pushed the wires up against the body and eventually shorting them out/damaging them or damaged the O2 sensor.
Anyone have this problem before? I think I need a different O2 housing for the Greddy exhaust.
EDIT: The fuse cover has a picture of an engine for that fuse and for another one. Have you looked at an Evo fuse cover? I wouldn't be asking the question if it was clearly labeled.

took it to the dealership after going over teh car and reading the forums. i came across that same post and called them and told them to check the o2 and sure enough it shorted and caused the fuse to blow.
Fixed it. Hope that this can help someone else. Moral of the story: check and make sure that O2 sensor isn't rubbing on the underside of the body. If it is, you're going to have some major problems and the car WILL leave you stranded.
dude my o2 sensor grounded out on the wastegate arm at full boost on a pull after installing my invidia o2 housing i about had a heart attack from flying to dead car no power steering no nothing dude i thought i blew it up huge back fire then wouldnt start yikes es evo helped me figure it out in like two seconds he is the evo guru around these parts
