Car will not go into gear when its running.

My 03 Evo 8 will not go into gear while its running. It has a south bend clutch in it thats about 4 months old. Anyone have any ideas of what the problem may be here?

probably a issue with the clutch not disengaging, you posted this a few days ago, so i hope you have figured it out.

If you put the car in gear and start it does it lunge forward? If so the clutch is not disengaging. I have seen a "finger" break off the pressure plate and get caught in between the clutch disc and the pressure plate not allowing it to disengage.

It sounds like a clutch, I had an m6 in the shop a while back that you couldn't switch gears at all unless you shut the car off. once you started the car it would roll slowly either forward or reverse depending on which gear it was in.

Turn the car off, put it in gear. If there is anything other than open space at least 20 feet in front of you, use reverse. Push the clutch pedal down and try to start the car. If it lunges forward, STOP CRANCKING. It means the clutch is not disengaging. If it starts fine and doesn't move at all with the clutch depressed and you have you foot off of the brake than it is not the clutch.

but can you start the car in gear... and then drive like in first gear? or does it just sit there? even with your foot off of the clutch pedal... b/c if you can drive with it in gear... but can't shift to another gear... that would suggest syncros...

Try checking the clutch fork. The fork is very fragile on our cars. Take a close look at that. Just pull the boot off and see if you can see anything broken in there. You might have to take the fork out to inspect it but thats pretty easy.

I am having a some what same problem all my gears worked but when I put it in 3rd it would grind real bad so I took it to mitsu here in columbus ga and got my oil changed.. Well they changed the oil and said they would not look at trans because of aftermarket parts will I asked them to drain the trans fluid and see if any debrie came out now they say they can't get it to go into gear at all which is funny because I drove it there and they had to drive it onto the lift and off and it sat for a couple days and now it won't go into gear at all
I got corporate involved and they are working with me
Any ideas what it could be

is it happening in every gear or just a specific one? most likely a clutch issue if it is every gear i highly doubt you fried every syncro. most likely the clutch and could be the fork tear her out and check it out
