Hey Guys, please help w/ mods gone wrong...

Hey guys, I purchased a used EVO VIII a couple of months ago. The car had a MBC, intake and exhaust (w/ flash) from the previous owner and I wanted to get more performance. I was recommended to port and polish the intake and exhaust. My friend and I found out they used abrasive material to do it like gritty sand. So I got with my friend that tunes Hondas and we decided to try it ourselves.
We got a bag of sandblasting sand and hooked up into the intake and started the car. We had to hold the gas so it would run. He wanted to let the engine suck in the sand through the intake so it would port it out and then push it out the exhaust so it would port the exhaust manifold.
I was worried that it might cause problems but he figured it'd be OK as long as we didn't make boost and it get sucked in the turbo. After running the car and letting it suck in sand we got about half way through a 10 lb bag. The check engine light was on and the engine was bucking and kicking and sounding really weird. We stopped and hooked the car back up normal and took off the sand supply. We tried to start it again and it was really hard. Once started it couldn't idle and kept making weird noises. We took it out and drove it and it started to make scraping and knocking noises.
Help! Can anyone tell me what to do! My buddy only does Hondas so he doesn't know much about EVOs. thx.

Well your profile says you drive a Evo 9 but your post says you bought a Evo 8 so which one is it? What year is the car? The only thing i would do beyond what you have is cams and meth. I wouldn't touch the exhaust mani or intake mani.

you ran sand in your engine and throught the turbo and the intercoler and the intake manifold. that just sounds really dumb. do you want to damage your car. Why not take the parts off the car and port them on a bench or something like that?
and you wonder y its messed up. Why not just put the 10lb bag of sand in the gas tank. it would flow better?

The sand mod also works better if you have a really expensive turbo and a brand new race head and built bottom end. . .

So I will say my bad I barely ready your post Im supposed to be working. But you did what! Dude your friend is a just plan dumb. I'm not going to blame you cause well maybe your new to motors but I hope you have comprehensive on your insurance cause your looking at a new engine, head, turbo, intercooler, basically everything.
