should I preload

the actuator on the evo9 10.5 turbo, if you are lost what I am talking about I mean adjusting the actuator screw so it would keep the wastegate shut longer. How much of you have done this and by how much?

How do you control boost on your VII(MBC, EBC, BCS)? What are your mods other than the IX turbo? Are you seeking to extract the ultimate in spoolup from yor turbo? What will your peakboost level be?

The IX turbo in its original factory configuration is notorious for its penchant to taper 3-4 PSI. I'd try replacing the factory WGA with a Forge unit and set WG preload to just 2 PSI under your peakboost level.

That's just what I would do. However, I personally use a MBC on my car so if you have an EBC or a modified factory BCS, then this advice may not apply in your particular case.

Thanks for replying sparky, I am using a ProfecB SpecII to control boost and yes I am looking for better spool up I find its pretty laggy considering the 9.8 I had on before. I ordered some 720cc so I am considering about 24psi daily and 27psi on the track with race gas. I currently have a DC Sport downpipe with cat delete and Apexi N1 cat back with Megan racing o2 housing other than that I have a K&N short ram intake. Because of where the actuator is and being so close to the radiator its very difficult to get to and how would I know how much turns to preload?

If you have the stock thickness radiator and not ham fisted hands, then it should be doable. It´s easier if you have the right tools if you´re gonna tinker with the actuator arm though.

You should have a long shanked flat blade screwdriver(14-16"), a longnecked set of bent needle nosed pliers(12"), as well as a flarenut wrench or tiny offset angle-head openend wrench(7/16", or m.m. equivalent). Place a piece of cardboard over the radiator fins so as not to shred your hands.

EDIT: You can try running about 19# of preload for your street boost peak of 24#. As long as you don´t get any creep and it´s not spiking then you should be ok at that level. You´ll have to leave the preload as is for the track days though. As it´s not worth resetting(increasing) it just for a day and 19# should spool quick enough. At the drags you build boost at the line anyway so spoolup is not really that much of a factor. And anyway 19# of preload should be plenty for the street.

If it doesn´t spool good enough for you at 19# of preload with the 10.5 housing, then you could try running the IX turbo with your old 9.8 housing and about 17-19 #´s of preload. GoodLuck! And let me know what happens.

If you have the Profec B spec II, then you can fool the actuator with the electronic boost control. This is the feature in your BC, which is the "start boost"

trust me it works nowhere close to how the preload is feeling
