4g63 or 4g64?
4g63 or 4g64?
Hello, I have a few questions reguarding the 4g63 and 4g64 7-bolt blocks. I am in the process of starting an engine build and am debating wich block to use.
I know I will be using the non-mivec 4g63 Evo8 head, and the 4g64 crankshaft for the added 100mm stroke, but I am torn between wich block to use. The added displacement would be nice with the 64, but I am having trouble determining wich 4g64 to use. I have been told that the newer 4g64's (2003-2007) are mated with SOHC heads, meaning there are no piston oil squirters. Appearently this is remedied by milling, drilling and tapping the oil cavities. Also I have read that there is both a wide and narrow version of both the 63 and 64 depending on wether it was a manual or automatic transmission.
I suppose my question is, Should I use the 63 block, wich will probably have to be slightly modified to fit the 64 crank, or should I go with the 64 block since I am starting from scratch anyway? I won't be revving this to the moon at all I am looking for more low end torque than anything else.
Also, If the 64 is the way to go, What year/make/model car should I get one out of? Obviously it needs to be out of something with a manual transmission as I am looking for a narrow block. Were there any 4g64's that came DOHC(newer models) so I will not have to machine for the piston oilers?
Thanks.
