Tranny and Tcase carnage

So launch a little too high, with a little too much traction, and maybe not quite enough clutch and...

My dad always said go big or go home, so now I need a case and another new tranny (that 5 speed was less than two months old )

This is just whats on the outside, we havent even opened up the cases yet to see what happened inside. The broken piece of the tranny was from the other side of the case. When the T-case blew up it drove the guts through the tranny and punched out the bearings and broke out that chunk.

A big thanks goes out to TJ, Lucas, Jake, and Zach here at EnglishRacing for helping to get the situation sorted and offering suggestions.

It wouldnt even be back at the shop though if it werent for Brummel. I cant say thank you enough both for the tow home and the conversation that was going to prove very valuable in the days that followed.

So the new plan is a non ACD case (the suspected culprit) or disabling the ACD in drag race situations.

Cheers

Been there.... Done that. You broke the small shaft that turns the spider gears in the transfer case. It pushes everything apart and that is what you are left with. Sorry to hear. It does suck.

Ouch.

What about the ACD do you think caused/contributed to this?

I have a spare VIII 5 speed that will get the IX 1st and input shaft out of the busted case if its still good and then I will have the normal Drag tranny we do (as well as many others do) and then I need to look for a either an 04 RS, or 03-04 open and get a diff for it. Its going to be about another 1500 or so I think if my luck improves.

This is the 3rd transmission to go in the car this year, rebuilt the 6 speed, yanked that and put in the IX 5 speed, and now the VIII box. I did get 29k out of the stock ACD with 175+ passes all with 6300rpm launches.

What the current theory is is that I was riding the clutch maybe not quite enough. It wasnt wheelhopping, but the ACD pressure hadnt ramped up enough and while doing a gnarly FWD burnout it locked and bound. First pass of the night and I went about 20 ft or so before it went KABOOM!!

Thats the strokes sometimes I guess.

Bum deal Midget! That just makes my stomach ache looking at it. Hope this will be the last time for a while to remove the tranny.

You running redline shockproof? Might be expensive but doesn't Motec and somebody else make an ACD controller than allows higher PSI and instant lockup. With that amount of power I would think ACD is not really a hinderance at the moment.

Redline cocktail, yes.

Its not a hindrance it just blows up. There are a few cheaper tricks than dropping the 1700 on the ACD controller. One is a slightly slower clutch foot, the other is some creative wiring of the ACD assembly...that or pulling the ebrake up 3 clicks and disabling the ACD that way.

Then again maybe its like Mrcox said and it was just the small shaft breaking and it was a giant coincidence and not the ACD necessarily.

Would it be possible to wire into the E-brake/ACD connection and put some kind of toggle switch on it?

so your front wheels moving faster then your rear wheels turns out to be a bad thing who would have thought. You should have rewired your acd long ago like you had planned. If you need anything at all just let me know.
