throwout bearing help???

throwout bearing help???

Have a friend doing a clutch install on an evo 8.he has all bolts,nuts,etc undone..But cant get the throwout bearing to release..Any ideas on how to get it out..I know im gonna hear"did you search:??The answer is yes..i did to no avail..All he needs is to get the bearing out..and he'll be able to get the new clutch in..Any suggestions would be appreciated..Justin

it's been a while but you're supposed to be able remove the dust cover for the fork on the outside of the tranny case, push against the for while twist a small pry bar or screwdriver where the bearing pops into the pressure plate.

^ Like the guy above said. But, you must make certain that the TOB is absolutely as far toward the pressure plate as possible. You must push the fork by hand to the drivers side of the vehicle, making sure the TOB is as close to the PP as it can be. Then all you do is stick a flat head screwdriver through the inspection hole and twist between the spring and the TOB. It pops right off. You'll see why it's so important to have the TOB pushed into the PP once you have the clutch out. That's the only way the spring can relase.
