Molybdenum maybe? It's a type of lubricant used like graphite and can be added to oils and greases. Not good for clutches though. Lot of products have it to reduce gear wear.

Have not heard about this practice myself, and I am in contact with the top 3 Evo mechanics on the island.. From what i can tell about the US situation... we are not having ANYWHERE near the problems that you guys are having. We have every Evo from the 1 to the 8... tranny reports are rare.... I will investigate it for you.
most of the rally guys use redline or castrol synthetic gear oil, the
dealer uses Valvoline High Performance Gear Oil GL-5 SAE 80W-90 which I highly recommend over whatever
puts in there at the factory. Used it in my Evo6 that i had for 4 yrs... virtually killed the notchiness.

I think I remember reading the Redline gear oil has Molybdenum in it also. I think it may be one of the additives most companies (Mobil 1) are calling friction modifiers. One reason some oils can't be used in motorcycles that share trany and clutch oil, can cause them to slip.
Hi all,
I just put NEO RHD in my wife's WRX tranny and rear diff and it helped tranny smoothness quite a bit. There is a lot of info and controversy on the WRX boards about some synthetic gear oils being too slippery.
In our EVO, they recommend a GL-4 oil for the tranny and GL-5 for the diffs, right? I may put Redline MT-90 in the tranny, since I believe MT-90 is GL-4,right? I love the NEO stuff so far, so I may use that in the diffs to see how it works.
Thoughts?

The limited slip diff uses different oil?
I think some limited slip diffs need a different type of gear oil. I remember that GM cars with LSD's used a special additive (old guys called it sperm oil). When I changed to synthetic gear oil in my BMW motorcycle it made the shifting much smoother. I don't know what would be the correct synthetic fluid to use in the EVO's rear LSD.

Thanks Guys I think that is what he was talking about.....
I talked to a guy from mitsu the other day anbd tried to explain the issues with the tranny and he was like we can have some one drive it but if we dont see it than we cant do anything about it.....
Kind of pissed me off since a drive arund the block wont prove or disprove anything in my book... then he proceeded to say why are you worried aboiut it since if it fails...(if it fails..?? wtf) then mitsu will replace it.
As if having to put up with a ****ty tranny when you paid for a 30k car is no big deal....
Well Im gonna just change all of the fluids and put in some redline to see if it gets better.
as for the moly... can any one copnfirm or deny this guys claim?
He said to just add a little to your fluid and it would smooth out.
