another CBRD twisted setup...

well,

we tried another 50 trim based turbo today... on evo8act's car...

you will recognize this car as the old "atlantic motorsports" shop car.... its chameleon colored...

Jeremy has a stock block, with rods bolts and upgraded bearings, and springs/retainers, s1 cams, ams turbo kit etc etc...

Kreonic has been tuning for him (using our dyno) on meth 50/50 and 100%... jeremy wanted more... so I offered up the idea of doing a custom turbo..

the car made apprx 410whp/340wtq in cooler temps on 100% meth at 28psi... very good power on our mustang dyno..

So, i offered to build him a 58lbs min garret compressor dual bb turbo with a stage 3 turbine (over his 3076R)... the hotside is a ford style 5 bolt like AMS always uses, but had .48 cast on it (not sure if this is actually a .48 or .63).. maybe their casting is wrong...

so today he came in, and we rocked it out....

very impressive...

the car spooled quicker than an HTA 30R we had on the dyno earlier by about 800 rpm... and the power came... first pull at 23psi made 408/330... Kreonic and I both tinkered with it, and to the tune of 455whp/380 wtq at 28.5psi with no knock...

the car spooled 200 rpm later than the standard 3076, but STOMPED it from 5000rpm up...

all in all, very impressive and a combination we will use more of... very similar to our time attack turbo that is being built..

I will post dyno charts tomorrow, and pics... overall jeremy was very impressed.... and had me take him for a drive in the car (something he rarely lets anyone do..)

thanks to Jeremy for letting me experiment (first time we've run this combo on the evo)...

and VERY many thanks to our partners at Blouch Turbo... we will be testing some new billet wheels with them in the next month or so... that are of comparable size... should rock!

cheers

cb

How did it spool slower than a standard 3076 but 800rpm sooner than an hta3076? I know the HTA you had on the dyno was the .82 which does spool a bit slower but still should be as quick as a normal 30r with the .63

the HTA does have the larger hotside, and is slightly more lbs/min than the standard 30R.... this combo im really happy with, and it was a shot in the dark.

ill post the plots.... this car is an 8, other is a ix with aggressive cams, so i think thats hurting the spool...

and if the 8 really had a .48 hotside, then that would explain it outspooling the new setup and possibly the hta.

Ah Okay. I was somewhat confused figuring the HTA would spool as quick especially on a IX. I would really love to see a 3076r with .63ar on a IX with S1's. I guess that is in a perfect world though.

It interests me though that you take a bb 50trim and stuff a bigger wheel in it and still get better spool that a 30r. You also said you will be getting billet wheels so in essence you will be building a HTA50trim that flows more than a HTA30r but have quicker spool. If so I think that will be the hot ticket for pump gas.

we will see what happens, what SHOULD work never does LMAO!! so it takes tinkering...

the 30R never really became what it should to me... never impressed me....

i think the 50 trim just rocks... our time attack car will use a variant of this turbo...

this car wasnt tuned entirely by me... kreionic did most of the tuning, i just threw my input in.... we tune similar.....

thanks for the comments guys, i want jeremy to post his thoughts...

Just got home now. I was very very impressed with this set up. When it hits it hits. Looks like you got an A in math class Chad.

This is a killer set up. Anyone looking at turbos around the 50trim-30r range and even a little bigger should really consider this. I was very impressed with spool and the like Chad mentioned this turbo stomps it over 5k. I really dont understand why anyone would want to do an off the self turbo. Blouch and Chad great job. You guys made my job easier

Chad is this something possible with only particular 50 trims....or are there many options? Interesting to see what something like a S256 or S258 would do with a BB center

lol,

we can put the BW's in these turbos...

interesting thing is, the big 73 lbs min BW extended tip, drops right in the 35R cover

but, yeah, we can do lots with the garrett dual bb 50 trims..... im trying 3-4 variations on the time attack car, in twinscroll and non TS T4.

OK guys I just got a chance to sit down and look at the logs. I will keep updating things when i have more time to look at them.

First thing i looked at was the Airflow. His 3076 same boost was low to mid 2000s hz. Tonight with the CBRD/Blouch hybrid we saw 3079hz constantly. This turbo just flat out moves some air. I really cant put it into words how this turbo hits. Its really is crazy. This is also with a good cam gsc s1 but ith a tad bigger cams forget about it. This is a great street turbo. No significant spool loss 100-200 rpm and crazy top end compared to the 30r. Jeramie will chime in soon and give you his impressions. He had a hour and half drive home. So i am sure he had some fun
