264 cams in an evo 8

I'm considering installing new cams but I haven't been able to find much info on power increases for HKS or equivalent 264s in an Evo 8 with the following modifications.

3" TBE w/ 3" ccat.
Lower ICP
K&N drop-in filter.
255 hp pump.
21-22 psi.

The car is in perfect mechanical condition.
Would anybody have a ballpark figure on the power gains I could expect?

I would say with Cams you should see around 330whp depending how healthy your car is. Go with GSC S1. If not go with HKS272 and your car will make love with you.

When I first got my GT3076r I ran with stock cams. Shortly after I ran HKS 264/272. Keep in mind this is a bigger tubo but I gained 53 whp and 45 ftlbs with that cam setup. Months later I switched the intake cam to make it just straight 272s. I lost a some down low but picked up some on the top end. My friend ran 272/272 on a fairly modded evo, stock turbo, stock ecu, just an afc and picked up 33whp

Don't bother with the 264. My tuner has been wanting me to get rid of them for sometime now. I think IM the only one left on EvoM with 264 in/ex. I'll be upgrading to 280's with my build. FYI I pulled 335hp 332 tq(DynoJet) on my latest tune.

Part of the reason why I don't want 272s is because of the lopey idle. I also heard you sometimes get a CEL because the ECU thinks its misfiring. Not that the CEL bothers me. I'd just like to keep it as stock appearing as possible. I'll probably end up doing cams at the same time as the 2.3L rotating assembly, it would only make sense.
I just built one for a friend's GVR4 and so far it seems to be holding up well. I did it for free (he just paid for the parts) so I could see what exactly I was getting into.

not all 272's are lopey, plus they can be tuned by your tuner to run smoother. don't sell your self short!

I was also considering 264s for the very same reasons but after doing some research I realized that 272s were more to my liking. I haven't ordered any yet but when I do they will more likely be the GSC S1s. I was also considering the HKS 272s.

The HKS 272's are not that lopey....if you have a standalone you can eliminate that anyways

I run the HKS 272's in my 03 8 and love them. Nevermind AMS's Cam Test is posted up and HKS 272's put up some nice gains compared to other's.

I dont think you'll mind the lope at all. And if its that bad either raise the idle or have your tuner advance timing at idle. Dont bother with smaller cams there is no loss with going bigger just more gains and better spool especially with HKS 272's.

Cam selection is a lot more specific than the bigger is better mentaility. I run what is considered a mild setup of HKS 264/272 and find it very well matched for my 50 trim turbo. It idles like stock and still made 500 whp on c16. It is a great combo for a street car.

I am currently running HKS 264I/272E in my 05 VIII with stock turbo and ECU with mods in my sig. I made 308 AWHP (Mustang Dyno, approx 345 on DynoJet?) at DTM in Virginia. I am getting ready to sell my 264/272 setup to a member on here and then I am thinking straight 272's. I already have some HKS 272's but now am thinking else! Some one buy my 100mm crank so I can get some head work done! LOL Thanks

Josh

If the 100mm crank is an Eagle, I'm interested. The whole reason why I had to rebuild my friends motor was because the 4G64 crank broke.

Not an Eagle, thanks for asking though.
