EVO VIII RS: Install Pics from the weekend. 56K go die.

Did some major mods on my buddies EVO VIII yesterday. Took all day, but after driving it with the new mods, it was well worth it. I'll walk you through the day:

Here's the car getting ready for surgery:

Now for the mods:

Complete EVO IX Turbo
Bushcur Ported Intake Manifold
Buschur 65mm Ported Throttle Body
Intake Manifold Spacer/Heatshield Gasket
Throttle Body Coolant By-Pass Mod
Buschur Ported Exhaust Manifold w/ Black Jet Hoat Coating
Megan o2 Housing w/ Black Jet Hoat Coating

Before the install:

Intake Manifold and Throttle Body out of the car:

Here are comparison pics of the stock and ported intake runners with the old gasket:

Here are the comparison pics of the stock and ported throttle body mounting points on the intake manifold.

A couple action shots before starting on the turbo install:

Radiator out, and the stock turbo ready to come out next:

Stock turbo out:

A little love for the exhaust ports:

Old and New comparison of the turbo assemblies:

My buddy doing what he does best. Drinkin a beer, talking on the phone, and getting kicked in the nuts:

More pics of the new turbo/manifold/o2 housing/hotside pipe assembly:

And the final product:

As a safety, we turned the MBC down a notch just in case it was boosting more. Well, it was only boosting and holding 19psi, so we knew we needed to turn it up. Cranked it one full turn and took it back out. Spiked 27 and immediately fell to 25, then slowly fell to 22psi and held all the way to redline. Turned it back down a lil and got it to spike 25psi and hold 22psi. The car pulls soooooo much stronger now with that tiny VIII turbo out of there. A/F's were all good, staying right around 11.2-11.3 .

nice to see a thread about more moderate set of upgrades in here for a change. i don't think i am alone in wanting to see a dyno comparison. i also want to know a more complete list of mods. stock cams? stock intercooler? what with the ported parts etc, i doubt it, but you should specify anyway.

I agree.

I've always taken a special interest to threads like this. A complete mod list would be nice. Yay for people pushing the stock turbo.

thanks for the info. if you are going to do meth, make sure you use at least the basic failsafes and rig them solid. i know afew people who have even had their failsafes fail... and are rebuilding their engines...

2 things.....
looks great and job well done

BUT!
if you went through the effort for all of this you should of gotten the Green.
and then throw some cams at that car ...

the stock 8 cams aren't that great at all!
some S1 with a green and all the porting work etc would of been spot on.

Way to totally not read their post with the specs in it carefully and also assume what they want. Just because a Green makes more power and is what you want doesn't mean they "should HAVE" gotten one.

again i apologize for not reading the complete mod list...
it just makes more sense to go with a green with all supporting mods he has done...
ported intake bigger TB etc etc...

he spends his money and i can't tell him what to do or what to purchase, it just makes more sense..

put it this way what would you guys do?... there is not such a massive difference in turbo between the 8 and 9.. the 9 will prob be able to carry more top end..

due to the bigger hotside

And please bear in mind... i have had a green and sold it already... currently running 30r!
If i was to upgrade from an 8 turbo that is what i would do...just makes more sense.
