Anyone the socket size for the Evo 9 O2 sensor that is screwed into the Cat?
How hard is it to unscrew it?

Thanks

O2 sensor socket is about $10 at Advance Auto. It works with 1/2" ratchet.
Much easier to remove with the cat down and out of the exhaust pipe. It is tight so get some PB Blaster.

So you would definitely recommend getting the sensor out with the socket? I'm going to be taking mine out soon so I don't want to strip or f up the sensor.

Are O2 sensor sockets universal? Are they all 7/8 inch? Don't want to take anything apart until I have all the tools.

(7/8) in = 22.22500 millimeters

which means it is a bit big

maybe we should use an angled 22mm open wrench

What do people use to take off the damn O2 sensor from the cat? mine is stuck on like crazy b!tch.

I would use the socket instead of a box/cresent. Less chance of slipping and messing up the sensor.

PB blast the sh*t outta it 20 min before trying to remove. Mine was a mother to get out...I ended up resorting to a torch. Do yourself a favor and anti-seize them afterwards. It makes your life sooooo much easier down the road.

O2 Sensor Removal

First thing is I've broken a few O2 specific sockets. The split in them makes it too weak. That is unless you heat up the bung pretty hot. No need to really heat the whole thing up, just pick a clear spot and get it cherry red. The sensor should come right out.

I bought a Bernzomatic Mapp gas / Oxygen torch from Home Depot. Besides being able to braze and do light gas welding the small tip is perfect for heating up O2 bungs. It was the perfect setup when I recently swapped my O2 housing. You get nice flame control and the fire dept. wont have to come charging in.

A nice thing in my toolbox too is a 22mm flare nut wrench. Having 6 points and it being split has made pulling 02 sensors (and installing them) a breeze.

I could see you breaking the socket....I was using a friggin 16 inch breaker bar and the stock sensor was laughing at me....that's when the torch came out. I got the last laugh.
