Head porting. *pic inside*

Started porting my head and figured I would post up a few pics and see what you guys think.

Exhaust ports.

Intake.

I havent touched the intake ports since I pulled the valves out but I dont think Im going to do much to them in fear of messing them up. I have done several V8 heads and some old VW bug heads but his is my first go at a 4g63.... Please let me know if you have any insight on this...... TIA!

I can see pocket porting under the valves and porting the exhaust ports but the intake ports are just way to risky IMO. Tons of research goes into perfecting the ports finish, shape, size ect... to make optimal flow. Hopefully you are okay though.

On the exhaust ports make those things shine like glass. The smoother the better.

wow that is one dirty head. http://www.sa-motorsports.com/diyport.aspx I found that helpfull. Definitely get a hold of those bits. Don't make the ports larger though. So far nice cleanup job. Just smoothen everything out and be careful on the knife edging.

am I better off not knife edging the exhaust side? I was told to leave the intake side and to knife edge the exhaust side. What kind of issues can knife edging cause?

Just seemed like you cutting it out too short and flattening the bottom where it is supposed to be like a blade. Best thing to do is look as some of the pics the companies do. Headgames has shown some great examples.

Curious to what bits you are using? I only use sand paper bits so I can go slow and take my time since it is aluminum. I know a lot of the major head shops use carbide bits but it seems to cut way too fast for me.

I used a carbide bit VERY briefly on a couple spots on the exhaust ports but I basically just use the sand paper rolls on anything aluminum.
