Brian Crower 272 Impressions

Well just got done with my install yesterday initial impression is omg i think I just shat myself. Pulls a lot harder to red line and keeps on wanting to pull. I'm going to try and get a good before and after comparison for those looking at these cams. It does have a good lope to it at idle but the ECU try's to correct and starts again.

How easy was the install job? Did you upgrade anything else or anything in the valvetrain?

Actually had a very skilled DSM guy do them using stock valve springs & retainers.. I also have the same supporting mods as ModifiedMR minus fuel pump and intercooler and I might just go ahead and bump mine to 23-24 after the pump install.

Old tune was around 271-280awhp in DLL after tune I'm seeing 326awhp & 286wtq in DLL. Much improvement. highly recommend for people with smaller turbos, green, white, red 3065.

I have just ordered these cams for my Evo8, there have been few negative posts on the Brian Crower 272's, and I was wondering if it is just the Evo9's which give dissapointing numbers on these cams, or are these cams for the Evo8 as bad?

This thread has some good reviews on them, so maybe they aren't that bad for the smaller turbos?

What are your thoughts on using cam gears with the Corwer cams on an Evo8?

Thx

You would almost have to run cam gears with BC cams. They are known to be off and needing to be degree'd for best results. I have yet to degree mine tho. I like my 280's, but I am sure I would pick up a good bit of overall power from switching to a better cam, so FP's Buschur's or GSC's.

Without cam gears, will I be off worse with the Crower 272 cams on my Evo8 or will I see some gains over the stockers?

I was thinking about getting the Brian Crower 272's. Has anyone every compared the Brian Crower 272's with the HKS 264's...in terms of power, how similar are they?

you will feel the gains, I sure did when I put the 280s on my stock bottom end. Now that I am on a 2.3, I def need to degree them.

If you look at AMS cam thread where they tested a buncha cams, You will see why the reason for needing the gears with these cams where as others you dont.

I think these are a great bang for the buck cams from what I have read on here....they provide descent gains if your on a bit of a budget.
