Head Studs Question.

I will be boosting over 25psi with a 35r but cams are not going to be in my near future. I thought I have read before that you shouldn't do head studs unless you are doing cams because it can warp the head or something like that. Is this true or is it ok to put the head studs in with out doing cams?

If you have a 35r, you should really get cams to take advantage of it. Head studs are always good insurance to install when boosting high, cams or not.

I'd say 80% of users on here have had their studs installed using the 1 by 1 method and over 90% of them have never had a problem.

I do? If your head studs are properly torqued and the assembly lube is used, you wont have a problem. Not one oil leak for me, three years later.

60% of the time, it works everytime.

From my personal experience, when done properly, the 1 by 1 method works fine.

well if you did some research you would see that about half of the installs of headstuds done this way result in an oil leak from the back of the block. mine did (lets see, yours didnt and mine did so right there thats 50%) I didnt install them though, the previous owner did. I had to replace the HG not to long ago

I have only herd of one person ever lifting a head on an evo, and that was due to a 35+ psi spike.

many people are running high boost big turbo setups on stock bolts and are fine. headstuds just arent really needed and the reason people preach that they are is due to the old dsm days where they were.

if you want put in headstuds, fine. but do it right and replace the HG too. its really not that hard of a job, it took me 5 hours (and i was going slow)

never time to do it right, always time to do it over

It's best to replace the headstuds when increasing boost. You should want to drive in comfort knowing you wont have any leaks. Headstuds are cheap and may save you from unforeseen future headaches.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong, but I was always under the assumption that it be better to lift the head or blow the HG as opposed to shooting a rod thru the side of the block? That was the reason I always ran stock headbolts untill I upgraded rods/rod bolts etc. And even then I would always run a stock headgasket in hopes if something wanted to give that it slip he HG...
