Evo ix T Case
The 2005 8 has ACD just like the 9. So yes it is identical. The ring and pinion is identical as well in all t-cases. And the early cases without acd break less often than the ones with ACD. at least around here they do. I have seen a bunch of broken acd cases. I have only seen one broken 2 spider diff early case. maybe it just means no one around here is racing the early cars.
So the original poster asked if 9 cases are stronger than 8. I would say most definately not. they are the same.
I believe the lsd causes more breakage due to having more hook on the line. The weaker two spider front diff breaks less because it allows the front tires to spin more. thus acting like a fuse in the drive train.

And sorry i disagree that the ACD cases break more often.. in your area maybe not but in my area the VIII cases break more so i will say the IX Tcase is stronger " In my opinion"... also, according Shep spinning isnt the answer for not breaking.. I went thru that when i broke a brand new tcase spinning on DOT's 2nd pass.. I have an RS diff tcase that has 20+ hard slick runs w/o issue now..
