I don't know a damn thing about compressor outlet temps or intercooler efficiency potential but... if you look at the data Buschur posted on intercoolers on their forum, you will see for example:

2 liter
GT35r, header kit
BR Race FMIC

Starting AIT, 82.40 degrees
Ending AIT, 96.80 degrees
Peak boost, 31.63 psi
20 psi at 4800 rpm

This is Trent's car on pump gas.
Now this means that there was a rise of 14F from the start of the pull. And before the start of the pull, presumably the AIT was over ambient. So it doesn't exactly square with what you report, however, Dave's info was from a dyno meaning less air flow so I dunno.

But just thinking rationally, I've seen people quote pre-intercooler temps and I recall then sounding pretty high, like over 200F. To believe an intercooler is so efficient it brings the temps back to 5F from ambient seems hard to believe.

Well I actually looked at more of the results Dave posted for the Buschur race and it seems the first he posted for Trent was the largest increase so maybe not representative. But the problem is we don't know ambient for any of Dave's tests so hard to say what is happening.

Anyway I was pleased with the 10c increase I saw with my APS but I'm beginning to wonder. Is there one single intercooler test showing the Buschur Race versus anything else with ambient temp recorded?

Anyone running the Buschur race wanna post there IAT's and ambient temp?

Nice review Al.

Fortunately or unfortunately (depending on how someon looks at it) I have taken the same approach on our black car as of this week too. We've had the car out twice this year, once for the shootout, once after. Not happy with the results either time and I am sick of fighting trying to get 1,000+ whp down the track.

We've put a smaller turbo on the car too and are going to quit trying to set the world on fire evertime we go out with it. I figure if my car can run consistent 9.4-9.5's at 155 mph on a 35r and in street trim/ungutted then we should be able to run 9.0's in the black car with a smaller turbo. I feel we need to get the car down the track at the same ET every single pass and then move up in power again. Right now every pass is a fight.

There's not a single guy with a GT42 on their car running times that are even close to the same from pass to pass. In my opinion we all look like freaking idiots running one 8/low 9 and then a bunch of crap, then another 8/low 9 and then more crap.

We are also taking a step back to figure out how to get the new suspension to work and get the car down the track the same every pass, then we'll step back up.

Good luck to you Al, I think you made a very smart move.

Thanks man and good hearing from you.

When you see how consistant , easy to drive and reliable your White RS bad bish is with mid 9 second times on a 100% street machine it starts to make a thinking man ask - where is the beef?

If that White RS can go 9.4 at 155 mph then how come I need 1,000 whp to go the same times ?

Of course the logical conclusion is to split the difference in the middle power wise between the two turbos (HTA 35 and Gt42) and try and find something in the middle that can give you the consistency and reliable aspects of the Gt35 along with SOME of the power of the Gt42.

Thanks as usual for all your tech support

Al
