MD dyno tune of my 03 evo
MD dyno tune of my 03 evo
Well I a few months a go I got tuned and never really had the chance to post up on this forum. so here is my little story
it really bugs me to ask for help, but I think I had come to a point where I requried it. So I contacted Wayne the owner of Paradigm Performance Innovations, to set up a tuning session for the car, at Speed Industry in Michigan. Tom Payne, would be tuning the car as per waynes recommendation.
So I sent in my deposit to Jan and I was all set to dyno on friday last week.
I left work (jackson) at 3:30, and made my way to Troy where speed industry is located. Let me say this, the traffic in the detroit area is absolutely ridiculous, I696 is like the autobahn where everyone seems to be doing in excess of 90
.
Anyway I got to speedindustry around 5:30 and checked out the facility, it was good to catch up with Jan and see all the new things that he was messing with at his shop.
He strapped the car down, and we waited for Tom and Wayne to get there, while we chatted about a few aspects about the vehicle. Jan indicated to me that his Mustang Dyno reads very low and that since he has owned the business, there have been only a couple of cars that have passed the 400whp mark. I thought that was interesting because I did not know that Mustang Dynos read that low.
Just a few facts, the mods on my car are as follows (that pertain to power)
standard 35R, 0.63 A/R housing, T31 style
72# injectors
buschur Race FMIC
PMAS air meter
AMS VSR
GSC 272s (the old ones, not new S series)
3 inch exhaust
3 inch upper piping , 2.5 inch lower piping
255 fuel pump
agp fuel rail
snowperformance meth injection
PPI 65MM tb
stock block
stock head
stock ecu
but what I think is important to mention is that I placed 93 octane from the Marathon Station in Jackson, in the car, The "methanol" that I used was Splash windshield washer fluid. 22 psi of boost pressure.
all tuning and datalogging was done utilizing Ecuflash and Evoscan respectively.
First pull 360 whp with 290..WTQ, everyone was surprised with this number , I knew it was going to be a good day
. The boost at this point was 22 psi.
Tom indicated that the afr was a little rich and my timing table was virtually flat.
As the night continued, Tom began to work the areas under the curve, so that the driveability of the car was better and that there was more useable power also everywhere.
after he was satisfied with this. it was time to turn it up. The goal that I had in mind was 400 to the tires.
the boost was raised to 26 psi, made a pull 406 whp 330wtq....................... oh yes I was absolutely thrilled
, Jan too was very surprised. he was just amazed with what the car was putting out on pump gas and the small turbine housing of the 35R (0.63 a/r).
Tom has the perspective that if there is even 1 count of knock, that it is unacceptable, so he pulled some timing and lowered the boost,
so the end result was 392 whp and 317wtq. (I have since raised the boost back up because I am comfortable with knock sums of 1 or 2 which in my opinion could be phantom knock)
Now keep in mind, the true test is when I go to the track , and see the increased mph, which previously on this car was 117(I don't know what the Horsepower was then at this stage of the vehicle).
here are some numbers for reference... a stock evo on this dyno puts down between 200 and 205 whp, I hope you have enjoyed my story and here is the video

and here is one of the graphs that I have it is only 402 over here

If you are in the michgan area, check out speedindustry and PPI, they will take care of you
have a great one everybody

The turbine size really makes for a nice powerband withe that turbo Warren. I really liked it. How is she running? Any thoughts on a race gas map?
BTW - thank you for the kind words, its always a pleasure working with you!

thank you wayne, I never really got a chance to advertise PPI and speedindustry on this forum, so I figured that I would post it up here as well versus just in the michigan local forums.
The car is doing quite well, still driving it everyday, averaging about 24 mpg which isn't too bad in this fuel crisis times.
I would love to get a race gas tune, So that I could possibly have my name in the 500whp stock block thread that is some where on this forum.
