Accusump install? - 2 motors blown in 1 month
Accusump install? - 2 motors blown in 1 month
I am loosing oil pressure on high 'G' right hand turns, (happens a lot at Miller). I have spun rod bearings on the same cylinder twice in the last month. I really need AMS to finish their dry sump system, but is at least a month out. I am going to install an Accusump system and was wondering if anyone has done this on an EVO. It should be really easy. The biggest question I had is what electronic valve to use. The electronic valve controls when the Accusump starts pumping oil back into the motor. They have three options 20-25psi, 35-40 and 55-60. Any help on what parts to use or another thread with more info would be great.
I use a Cosworth Oil Pan on my STI which has a modfied deep sump. Not only does it give you added oil capacity for additional cooling but it also puts the oil pick up in a location which has a lot more oil and much harder to draw air on a tight corner.
I would imagine that a talented fabrication shop would be able to make you a deep sump modfied Evo oil pan and extended pick up tube without too much trouble and that may be the best solution.
I know what some drag guys on here already did that.

I need to know for sure which oil line coming off of the factory oil cooler is the cool side? I need to tape into it for the Accusump. I am not sure of the direction of the oil flow off of the oil filter housing???
The problem with the Evo is the fact that the motor is transversely mounted and the sump is on the very right of the engine. A deeper sump, accusump, and more oil are all going to be patches not solutions.
The real way to fix this problem would be a dry sump that pulls oil from both sides of the motor or a completly modified pan and pickup that has the deepest part of the sump and the pickup directly in the middle of the motor, so that you get equal drainback under right or left hand turns (more like the STi). The problem with that is you create a routing problem for your downpipe.

Contact Aviaid oil systems http://www.aviaid.com/pdfs/cat05.pdf, I believe there still in CA. They have been building competition oil pans since the 60's and make great custom sportsman oil pans or they can steer you in the right direction. Also replace your oil cooler, the amount of junk left in there can kill your next build, as you can never get them 100% clean. Indy
