30k service cost

I'm due for a 30k service and got a price quote from ptuning

Here is what's going to be done:
Our 30K maintenance for the EVO comprises of:

· Oil change w/ Mobil1 Synthetic 10W-30 motor oil
· New OEM oil filter
· Replace airbox filter w/ OEM filter
· Tranfer case flush w/ Red Line gear oil
· Rear diff. flush w/ Red Line gear oil
· Coolant flush w/ Prestone 50/50
· Replace spark plugs w/ NGK BPR7ES
· Tire rotation
· Brake inspection

TOTAL for parts & labor = $445

Is this a fair price or is this too high?

Your plugs shouldn't need changed if you still using the OE iridiums. I got my 30K done at the dealer for more like $300, I'd have to check but I don't think it was any more. The only thing they didn't do was the accessory belt, it didn't need it yet, but that is part of the 30K service.

DO NOT let them do your filter.

Buy a K&N drop in. It would be a huge waste of money to let them put an oem one back in for you.

If you are the least bit mechanically inclined I would suggest doing all that yourself. You will save yourself a lot of money and give yourself the satisfaction that the job was done correctly. If you look in the how to section of this forum you can find all the information you need to get yourself squared away.

I was considering it myself, but all that work one can do by themselves. Besides - you can sit back and feel good about the fact that YOU did it to your OWN car, and that all your nuts and bolts were properly secured and fluid topped off correctly!

Agreed, I did all that for about $500 less than the price they quoted you.

Sorry I meant $350 less. They didn't pay me to do it.

I'm confident you can do it all yourself man. If you don't have the time then get it done. Also find some local evo owners and ask for help. If you came to NY I'd help you in a second!

I just did a 30k service on my mine. Heres what I did:

Tranny Fluid: $58
Gear Oil: Tcase and rear-$36 plus tax (mitsu oil)
Oil & filter: $39
air filter: $19
tire rotation: free (thanks to my bro's help)
spark plugs: $54 (estimated since I cant recall)
pump and hose (for tcase & rear diff.)-$18
TOTAL is roughly $224.

Its a lot cheaper to do things on your own as you can see.

Yeah, that seems a little high for what you're getting. And put anything but Diaqueen in your transfer case and diff... As someone else mentioned, if you're mechanically inclined, you can handle all of this in about 3 hours taking it easy.

You should just do it yourself.

i think it's a lot cheaper to buy your own parts and fluids and take it to their shop and only pay for labor. That way you know how much you're really being charged and it's easier to shop around just getting labor quotes.

A lot of shops make a profit on the OEM parts they sell to you.

I usually change my own oil and do all the small stuff and save around $10 per process in labor costs. It adds up in the end...
