Fuel efficiency

I just got an evo 9 about 2 weeks ago. This is my second evolution to own. I was wanting to know what mods I could make that would improve gas mileage and increase performance. Right now my evo is stock.

I'm on my second Evo as well, and check out the sig.

FWIW, I'm averaging 21 mpg with a 60/40 mix of highway and city driving, with sporadic occurrances of high speed passing under full boost in 5th. I've heard that if you stay out of boost, you'll get another 2-3 mpg, and even some guys that have huge turbos (and the mod list to match) have a real easy time getting great mileage as long as they keep their foot out of it. That's probably due to the capability that's been built into their upgraded motor, as it should operate under normal loads (and normal speeds) with greater ease than that of a stock Evo.

Get a large frame turbo and you'll stay out of boost longer. Also it makes power

I hear getting a grounding wire kit will help to. Any suggestions on exhaust brands? On my first evo I went with RSR. I think it was 3 or 3 1/2 " piping. I've been thinking about going with a titanium exhaust.

I would say a simple Tune on a stock ECU with stock setup and you're set. the more power you make the more gas you'll burn.

an exhaust will give even better results mpg wise with a retune

really anything that reduces backpressure is gonna help your fuel efficency, power is a side effect

you just have to have self control to drive sane and not got WOT everywhere.....i dont have self control

Suprisingly this time around I have had a lot of self control with the car. The main reason being that gas is so expensive. Most of my driving has been taking place to and from work.

After all this work I had done I am getting about 21-22 mpg. If I have my foot in it the mpg goes to about 18-19. Not bad...not bad.

This is wrong info and don't follow this.

I am making just under 600whp driving with 93 & alky. All mods in my signature link. Two weeks ago I drove down to NYC in the car an averaged 26mpg for the trip. This was driving pretty conservatively with only a few wot pulls. Parts and tuning can be your friend.

On the flip side if im into it everytime I hit the gas im willing to bet I could average 10mpg all day long Its all about driving habits.

Dude, think thru it. A ground wire kit? If you find one that gives better milage let me know. Chances are if it doesn't touch gas in any of its forms it isn't going to save you gas. Others on here are on target with the retune.

bottom line is the more efficient you motor becomes the better you gas mileage will become with it. Now some of the things I am about to list, are a little extreme, it all depends on how far you are willing to go.

Intake pipe and open element filter, intercooler piping, better 02 housing, downpipe, high flow cat/ testpipe, exhaust, port exhaust manifold, port turbo, port intake manifold, port throttle body, intercooler, and retune

like i said some of these things are extreme, but with this combination and easy drving habits, theres no reason to not get amazing gas mileage
