Possible 03 Evo engine broken....help

So after picking up my friend, I was driving to another friends house and hit a horrible pot hole on the way over. My oil light came on and we pulled into the apartment we were arriving to. I shut down the car for a bit to see if it just needed to settle or what not and decided my friend lived 3 blocks away so we were gonna drop off the evo, and get his car. On the 3 block drive to his house my car simply shut down, no noises nothing, i tried to crank it again and no go. luckily my friend with a truck was nearby and he pulled us to my friends house where it still sits today. This happened saturday, i left it there sunday, filed a police report today and called my insurance company too. I also refilled the oil today and tried to crank once more to no avail. what do you all think that i should do, whats wrong with it (in your all's opinion)

Did you check underneath the caR? I bet your oil pan cracked when you dipped into the pot hole, drained the oil while drivin back. Then the engine died. You should have shut off the car immediately after the light came on.

Quite possible. With a short drive, unless the oil just spewed out after you hit or you just ripped the pan right out from under the car, you should have seen quite a puddle where you parked before you started it again. Just speaking from experience.

Did you inspect your engine area for any damages?

there was a significant amount of oil underneath, but again 3 blocks....stupid comercials making you think cars can run without oil for x amount of miles......i should have stuck with my gut instinct and left if at the original apartments. not being super technical though you can see how i thought 3 blocks not a big deal......

I would be afraid to drive my Protege let alone my Evo one inch with no oil pressure. That is what that light on the dash means no oil no pressure. Heck come to think of it if my oil isn't exactly on the full mark above or below I won't drive it without correcting the situation. Expensive lesson but I would think the engine is shot.

Sounds like time for a stroker.
Try and be positive about it. You may be able to make an insurance claim and get it covered.

first thing i would do is put a breaker bar on the crank pulley and see if the engine will turn over, but if you drove with no oil at all then the engine is probobly siezed up.

yes i already found out that i am a moron, so i dont really need the "expensive lesson comments" yes now i know, if ever my oil light comes on no driving at all....however lets try and find the silver lining to this and what are my options here. not knocking the expensive lesson comments, just they really arent helping an already bad situation.

Look around the boards for a used/low mileage engine. Hopefully the insurance will give you the money for a new one. Take the insurance guy to the pot hole you hit so he can see exactly what happened.

When you put oil in it did the oil leak all over under the car? Sounds like you hit the oil pan/cooler and cracked it or broke a big piece off.

You may get lucky and not need a new block.

The breaker bar Idea is a good one to see if it is seized or not.

Do you have a good shop near you that you can take it to? If so have them look at it and diagnose the issues with it.

Good luck
