Why does my boost peak, then taper off?

I have a IX. I just picked the car up 2 days ago & as far as I know the only mods are: K & N panel filter, catless TBE (at least it looks catless--There isn't a cat where it usually is, just a 2 foot long pipe bolted in. There is something further downstream, but I think it is a resonator...then it goes to the Injen muffler.) & a Forge MBC. The OEM boost gauge will peak @ approximately 1.8 bar then taper to around 1.3-1.5 bar. I was told by the salesman that the MBC is set to stock boost. Why does it peak, then taper off? Shouldn't it hold a steady boost to redline?

Thanks!

Is 26 psi too much? I was told that the ECU is stock, but I'd bet money the TBE is catless & the car isn't throwing any codes.

26 psi is alot.........i would turn it down a bit or something will probably blow if its not tuned for that much boost....also....you arent extremely modded...theres no reason the boost should be up that high.....i noticed you are in flordia....take it to ttp....have them tune you back to something more safe and reliable....in the meantime..turn the boost down to stock...another theory could be maybe a salesman took it home for a weekend and "tinkered" with it...maybe saw the boost controller and turned it up not knowing what he was doing....but than again...its just a theory

That boost level should be fine, if you get tuned for it. To answer your question though the MIVEC heads actually flow a ton of air and the head out flows the turbo (this is what I've read on these forums, but please correct me if I'm wrong) at higher RPM's. Hence why you spike at 1.8 and taper off from there. All IX's on the stock turbo do it.

Turn it down brotha!! you are on the edge.. far edge.. Get the tune for that level and then you should be fine barring any complications..

turn it down unless youre tuned for 26psi...meaning you should be running race gas or meth...good luck!

The simple answer is that the turbo has the capability to flow a certain amount of air. As your RPMs increase, the engine uses more and more air, as the amount of air used is directly proportional to RPM. Since more air goes in, and the max amount of air from the turbo is fixed, the boost tapers...

That's not quite accurate in all descriptions, but it's generally close enough so you get the concept.

Turn it down if you don't wanna blow your car up. Like mentioned unless your tunned for 26lbs on race gas or running meth you shouldnt be boosting that much. set it for like 20-21lbs. 23 if you got all the supporting mods

So...I can run that much boost if I'm tuned for it...right? How do I know if the car was tuned? Remember, I said that I'd bet money there isn't a cat on the car & the car isn't throwing ANY codes; there also seems to be ONE mark on the MBC...as if someone turned up the boost to this point, then marked it on the MBC...what to do...what to do...
