Finally, My Evo build.

Finally after 17 months of owning my Evo 8, I am making a thread for the build it went thru. Mod's I am pretty sure that this is the right area to post it, if not, can you move please?

March 07- Dyno day at TopSpeed. Removed DynoFlash Eflash. Damage done already- spun #3 bearing 2 weeks later. 1st tune was too rich causing fuel to wash the bearings. (so my Mitsu Tech told me)

NEVER FEAR!!! Cuz I can do this
She sat in this condition for some where arround 6-7 months before I could decide on either patching and taking to CarMax or fixing and keeping. Well it's obvious which way I went!

The new parts start arriving. (most of my build was reused from the last setup so I dont have all the pix for all the parts)

Ended up scraping this manifold and going with a HAFE setup.

My Evo making the move from my house to my brother's shop. (pix taken at my work)

And where she sat for another 2 months or so while the engine was built and parts arrived.

Finally the Engine

And going into its home! (kinda blurry from the crappy cell phone camra)

All in!

And the newest pix I have of her.

Oh for the view pleasure, The 3 different stages of death of my Evo. 3 seperate incidents.
The first death- Blown head gasket with melted head. Unknownest to me when I bought the car, it had a blown head gasket. (ran thru auction with out coolant to keep it running smoothly, bastards!)

The second death- Spun #3 rod bearing

The third death- Over rev + weak timing belt tensioner= bent valves (pic 1 is cyl 1&2, pic 2 is Cyl 3&4)

That is the most up to date pictures I have. So far I have added a MR Diffuser to the roof, a 1 off cold air intake for the turbo, battery relocation, and adjustable sway bar links ends with a perrin 25mm rear sway.

Vids of the Idle fully tuned.

Why did you decide to change maniflods. The manifold you didnt use looks to be and ebay manifold which is an SS autochrome. I know every one say the are crap but just woundering why you decided to change.

Because it is worse than crap. The downpipe it came with needed to be cut in 3 places and moved arround, the welds on the manifold were weak and had slag built up on the inside of the collector. 1 good run on the car with any substantial heat build up and the slag would have gone thru the turbo. The flanges were all warped and by the time I had the thing rewelded and braced, I still had to make a 1 off wastegate dump tube. I was very unhappy with that manifold. The runners were way too large (50mm) which is bad for spool up. Dont get it.

I had/have my own issues with the HAFE manifold and O2 housing also, but at least it is cast and wont crack.

YES it works! Before I did the wrap, I could burn my hands on the rad hose and UICP, now I can grab them and it be fairly cool to the touch. I also heat wrapped the A/C lines where they come close to the turbo and wastegate dump, and wrapped the LICP where the dump comes clost to it. I also put and aluminum heat sheild arround the LICP right where the dump passes it just for an added insurance.

Numbers will be up as soon as TouringBubble and I finish the tuning. GREAT tuner by the way for anyone looking for a Email tuner or someone to tune in the 'Bama area

Woah did you drop the motor in from the top? That is pretty skillful maneuvering. I had to raise the front of the car and slide it in from the bottom

Can you post or PM me what the problems are with your HAFE setup? I am about to install one...

I just added a pic of the BC springs verse the stokers and I also added the 3 deaths of my Evo that caused the build.

I live and work in Easley. I pass thru greenville every once and awhile.

Yes, GT3076R. I wanted something with quick spool and close to equal HP and TQ out put. I might bump up to a 35R or 37R HTA in the future.
