Not exactly what I wanted for my first post....but anyway, my '04 VIII just threw P0500, "Vehicle Speed Sensor Malfunction." Anyone have any idea where this sensor is and what I might try doing to get the code to go away? I've already tried clearing it, and it just comes right back on. Thanks in advance.

The speed sensor when working properly tells you how fast you're going. When the dealer broke mine, I wasn't getting any mph and no miles were being put on the car. Does your mph still show on your dash?

Yeah, the speedometer works fine, which is the weird part.

look right in front of the rear tranny mount you cant miss it. I broke mine before and if it isnt working you wont have a speedometer and the mileage wont be moving so you would know.

try replacing the sensor anyway. sensor may be working properly but out of spec, thus the code.

Thread revival - just got this today and I'm still getting speed and mileage and everything! It's super cold here in MN and the car started a little rough, but nothing out of the ordinary and then the check engine light now stays on.

I'll check the connections but I have a feeling like they are going to all be plugged in and not broken. Other than just straight up replacing the sensor does anyone have any other tricks? Thanks in advance!!

Mine went away after 29 hours, I just left it and it went away. I would try clearing the code and see if it comes back or stays away. I was going to check it out at the dealership I work at and on my way to work Monday morning I noticed it was gone!
