welding Buschur exhaust

anyone know what type of welding would be required to weld a buschur exhaust system together? im tired of the d@mn slip fit pipes coming undone while im driving. like last night, i was driving, and then i heard a loud "POP!" and then metal dragging, and it was my d@mn muffler dragging on the ground. and then today, i went and put the car on the lift and the d@mn stainless straps they use to keep them together were stratched from normal use, and just wouldnt hold, so now my exhaust is all loose and im afraid to even drive it anywhere.

also im thinking the whole exhaust might have to come off and be cleaned before any welding, i dont have a cat, so there is residual fuel in the system that could catch fire.

anyone have any info?

It isnt that thin. I just had a o2 sensor bung welded into mine last week.

I will say that it is thinner then some other systems but is of a better alloy of steel.

Never had this problem.

Use some exhaust paste from the local parts store, dont weld it

Find someone that is very handy with a tig welder. It will take care of that no problem.

i just had a test pipe with an electronic cutout welded into my buschur exhaust last week and i had them weld up the whole system it took 15 mins and cost 40 bucks but you have to be careful some places i called wouldnt touch my car bc there was no cat. i told people i was outtin a test pipe in and they would just hang up on me. but anyway yea 40$ for the whole exhaust and the welds looked great he said it was easy to weld

thanks for the paste idea, but im looking for a permimant solution, this is a stupid problem, a problem that shouldnt really exist if the exhaust designers had put a little more thought into it...

well, that might be a problem, then... i would be looking to get this done here in the Alexandria area in VA, and i know VA is one of (if not THE) gayest states when it comes to modified cars...

the good news it that i am an out of state resident, so i never have to go through an inspection, or emmissions. (i have florida tags.im military)

but you think i should see about getting it done for around $40? i have no idea how much one would charge for 3 tig welds on an exhaust?

also did you need to clean up the exhaust before the weld because of unburnt fuel?

Ive had a BR full turbo back on my 1g for over 6 yrs now and never had this problem. I would say it has soething to do with the install. Slip fit exhaust do leave alot of room for error. I mean the length and the angle of all the pipes are tweakable unlike a flanged exhaust.

I beleive I read that to slip fit system is best you can get. With a flange system there is a possiblity the flanges will not line 100% and can cause a poor flow on the exhaust.

That paste idea is a perminant solution... It hardens at 700degs and it will come apart if needed. I have used it and it works.

I just started having the exact same problem with my BR exhaust this weekend. I'm going to go home and put a few tac welds on it. I don't plan on taking it off anytime soon so I'm really not worried about it. I tightened the damn thing up with a ratchet and used a jack handle as a cheater.... Right b4 I thought the bolt was going to break I figured it would be tight enough........ I grabbed a hold of it and could slide the muffler back and forth.... I say weld that hoe!!! Permanent fix.. With no worries or hassle!

i didnt clean up anything before i took it in. a friend of mine had this exhaust welded up for 85$ and its tru duall all the way back so it was more welds

Are you guys using impact wrenches to tighten the band clamps? That's the best way, and don't reuse the clamps if you can help it.
