Injen IC piping/intake question

I just put on the Injen IC piping and intake kit. The instructions were pretty vague and I'm pretty new to the Evo so the results are my car almost dies at 2000+ RMPs. So I'm guessing I have a boost leak. But another thing I'm worried about is that the boost control solenoid hose has a tip on it that plugged into my stock intake. The new intake has a tip of its own so i cut the tip out of the stock hose and plugged it and make sure to keep it fastened. I didn't read anywhere in the instructions or on any thread that I would have to do that. Mistake? Also, would a boost leak cause my car to be that unresponsive? I was under the impression that it would make it sluggish, not undriveable.

I'm going to check my set up this weekend as I have a boost leak. I'm at the point where I just want to get a BR mini battery kit and get their UICP as it doesn't have as many bends or as many needed couplers.
