un recirculated stock bov
hey man, im not gonna give you sh*t about this like some other people would, but alot of us who know our cars, know that our cars are not setup to be vent to atmosphere. your car wont run right if you dont recirculate it.

well, there are several signs. for one, your MPGs will go down noticably, your plugs will foul, you'll shorten the life on your cat (assuming you have one) and durring wide open throttle pulls you will notice black smoke coming from the tail pipe. oh, and your check engine light might come on from anyone of these things.
the problem comes from the location of the stock mass airflow sensor. it is located before the compressor. the "overflow" air from the upper intercooler pipe bleeds off into your inlet pipe before the compressor, im not sure how exactly this keeps the car in check, but hey, Mr. Mitsubishi worked it all out that way. if you want that loud swoosh noise when you shift or after partial throttle, then buy a turbosmart dual-pot BOV, they will allow you to vent half the air to atmosphere, and half to the inlet pipe, still not a complete solution, but much better than Venting your stocker to atmosphere.
buy yourself a Cone intake, and keep it recirculated, you'll be able to hear it much better that way, and not risk as many problems. but be warned, if you start modding your car, you will never stop, it will eat at your wallet like a cancer...

Actually... The only time its really affected is while shifting or letting off the gas. Not recirculating causes the car to go rich and bogs the car down. It doesnt affect your car making power, it affects the speed. Cone filter is the way to go.
Cheers!
there are several ways to get a VTA blow off valve, i'll save you the trouble of searching, but this is a freebee cause im bored.
option 1 (easiest, not true VTA though)
dual port blow-off valve (SWOOOOSH!)
option 2 (stupid waste of money unless you are doing because of the addition of meth)
MafT or MafT Pro unit will allow you to us a GM air sensor and tell your tuner that you want to run VTA when you get it all installed.
option 3 (stupid waste of money unless you have a heavily modified car, and need more tuning options)
Buy an aftermarket EMS and run a Speed density setup instead of mass air flow (most commonly used when upgrading your turbo... after you get all the bolt ons...)
note: if i say stupid waste of money, i mean that it would be a waste if you were only doing it to run VTA
