Question Who can help explain? Turbos??

Ok so here goes,
Im not frm the states but was interested in buying a turbo kit for my Evo8 from there.
I have trouble understanding the different types of turbos you guys have..
Im after a GT35R.. over here they call them a 35/40...
anyways, been looking at names like HTA 35 and RNR 35 etc...
are they all genuine garets just rebranded to suit the workshop/tuner??
need to know these things as im in the process of sorting one out and i want to make sure im not buying something that sells on ebay or is cheap chinese copy..

thanks in advance

Go with a Buschur/AMS kit: hta35r/37r /850 from AMS.

ETS also has some nice kits.

You will probably get best results asking about the specific turbo kit you are looking at to buy. With a few variations its hard to list everything. Is rnr the turbo you are trying to purchase?

I would stay away from RNR (IMO)- do a search on here and see what others think about them.

You could send Buscur/AMS/ETS a pm to find out the answers to your questions. Search on here and see how happy people are with these kits.

The 850r is similar to the hta35r and I believe there is a comparision on here somewhere as far a spool and power.

I just mentioned those kits as many members run them with great results.

Take your time and do not rush into a quick purchase.
Good luck

Here is the link on the 850 vs hta35r:

Just depends on what model. Most popular turbos sold and talked about on here are hybrid GT based turbos that use Garrett CHRAs, with MHI hotsides (unless it is a full Garrett hot side like a T3) and in most cases, what makes a turbo different from each other brands' is their specified compresser cover, and turbine and compressor wheel.

As you can tell, most people on here don't really know what the hell is going on, they throw around names like "GT35R" and "HTA this" and "Bushur that", not really knowing any real specifications on that particular turbine.

If your looking for somthing in particular, I would shoot a reputable vendor a call who's big thing is turbos (ie Forced Performance) and tell them what exactly you are looking for and how you use the car, and they will suggest some options that will work best for you.

The factory exahust manifold isn't that bad of a piece, and will probably last alot longer than alot of the aftermarket jobs. Your best bet is to probably port your stocker.

What are your goals for the car?

I would suggest looking into the super value turbo kits from www.extremeturbosystems.com. If price is an issue, these kits are a good bang for your buck. I think they're around $2700 USD for the full kit. Can't really beat that price for the quality and service you get with ETS. This should easily put you within your power goals, and would relieve the buyers remorse of a secondhand turbo.

ok ok.. thanks foir everyones input..
let me explain one thing.. I am wanting to get something similar to what you call a GT35R with a 0.8 ex housing side...
What would compare to that. bearing in mind that i might like to crank more than 350kw at the wheels one day..
For now i am running standard block so i dont see the need in punishing it to the point of it blowing up..
Also like some people have said and i still need confirmation on this, are these turbos all garret made anyways?? Reason i say this is because we get cheap chinese turbos here and i see a lot of horror stories. not wanting to go down that path.

Thanks for anyones help
