Did I get the right spark plugs?

Today I went to Pep Boys to get some spark plugs for my evo 8. They are NGK iridium IX (part #BKR5EIX-11). I sepcifically told the guy at the parts counter what kind of car I had, make etc. I just wanted to make sure these are the right ones before i put them in tomorrow.

I looked at the computer with him at the store. It siad that my car took either these or the Laser iridium one which they did not have in stock, and were much more expensive.

I have searched and read many threads on here that state part #s beginning in BPR and ending in designations of 7ES, 8ES etc. The parts guy also told me they were pre gapped.

Any input is much appreciated.

No, do not put them in!

You want BPR7EIX protruding iridium
BR7EIX non protruding iridium ( I like these best!!)

BPR7ES protruding copper
BR7ES non protruding copper

BPR8ES protruding copper / step colder
BR8ES non protruding copper / step colder

hope this helps...

Iridium plugs are mainly used in daily driven vehicles because of their ability to last much longer than copper ones, however they cost quite a bit more and many racers I have talked to personally recommend copper for motorsport use as it supposedly provides a better spark. Copper conducts electricity better than most metals. Can't go wrong either way, but i'm running the BR8ES (copper, non-protruding) in my car right now one full step colder than stock on a .023 gap with about 350tq 350awhp and my car seems to run pretty darn well on these plugs... Can't go wrong for 2.50 each, just gotta change em more often, only takes about 15mins to do tho...

Whoa, DS-03, he has a IX, which use much different plugs. IXs cannot use the ones you listed. Check other IX-specific plug threads to get the proper part #. I don't have them memorized for IXs...

I think he has a VIII as stated by his profile.

NGK BPR7ES FTW!!! Good Plug and very affordable, I gapped mine at .32 (Stock Boost)

If your running slightly upped boost the BPR7ES's gapped at .023 to .026 are fine. If your running a larger turbo the BPR8ES's (like mentioned and gapped above) will work for you.

If you are only slightly modded, go for the BR7ES or BR7EIX... Basically the same plug just the BR7ES is copper which wont last as long as the BR7EIX which is the iridium version of that plug. The BPR has a p in it for protruding tip, which isn't quite as good a plug for the evo head, though it will work (I don't use BPR's). The BR7ES and BR7EIX are both a 1/2 step colder than stock as well which will give you better resistance to knock etc. but they won't be too cold a plug for your setup. Just decide whether you want to fork over the $ for iridium plugs that will last a lil longer or the copper ones which spark better and are very cheap but must be changed out/ checked more frequently. MAKE SURE YOU GAP THEM!

Try non protruding BR8ES gapped to .022. Are you on the stock coils?

Yeah really...I just looked at his name, which is a bit strange considering his car.

BVDawg, your gap is too high. Do 8s and gap to .022 or so.
