Arrow For those of you running EXEDY TWIN HD.....great mod here for to prevent clip....

I was driving wednesday when I started to get on it as soon as I shifted 2nd gear my clutch pedal didn't come back . We pulled out the tranny and we found out the retaining clip was broken.

As per advised of Most-Wanted and Lucas English...We put 4 springs. Thanks guys!!! Also Thanks to Barry and Jon!

Its and common problem with any EVO clutch that is still the factory pull style. I had my single pop apart.

I just save all the springs from the old clutches.

The Exedy Twin HD should have 2 or 3 springs in it from Exedy.

BTW, this is the ONLY way to ensure you wont have a clip pop on an Exedy clutch.

The AMS / Exedy push style conversion kit.

Man, I just changed mine out from losing the clutch after shifting into fourth. My retainer ring was all bent to hell. This is a very common problem. I wonder how 4 of the wavy springs instead of 2 does to prevent this?

Actually its NOT a very common problem at all - the Exedy clutches have proven to be very reliable over time.

Out of thousands and thousands of these Exedy performance clutches out in the market it has only happend to a small proportion. We have only seen this happen to 4 of our customers out of thousands.

Also, ACT and other companies that use the patented Exedy clip and TOB system also may have the same problem.

The clip / TOB system is designed to facilitate rapid and easy installation of the drivetrain and lower costs. It is supposed to hold an insane amount of force when properly configured.

I have never seen a stock one - which uses the same system - come off in use.

Perhaps, the problem is related to resonance and vibration on highly modified cars. I suspect that installation issues may be at the root, although I have no conclusive answers. A few points, it is super critical when installing to make sure the transmission mounting surface is totally devoid of any forgein object or dirt which can place the tranmission at a slight angle. Secondly, when installing the trans it is critical that the tranmission input shaft does not contact and possibly damage the clip.

For the few people who have had this popping off clip problem in the past we have found that adding extra wave washers was not a total solution.

The AMS conversion is of course the ideal fix to this problem but raises the price of the clutch significantly.

Would it really matter if we did or not have issues with machining at first? or is this just another attempt at bashing AMS every chance you get?

For those that are wondering, this kit works perfectly. There are no machining issues with the kit.

AMS site: Only works with the Exedy twin and triple metallic clutches for the EVO VII / VIII / IX five speed transmission.

Does this mean it won't work with the carbon?(if incase I convert mine to carbon...)
