Evo Crankwalk - Pics

Guys

I posted a while back about a customer Evo that was brought to me with some funky symptoms.....basically it was dying when the clutch was depressed.

I got a chance to get under the car today and manually check the crankshaft end play with a prybar...

Heres what I found

Looks like it has at least an 1/8" of play...if not more

I also let the car run while underneath and used a prybar to move the clutch fork and I could hear the crank pulley starting to rub on the cover...

Theory is the reluctor wheel pickup is losing the signal and car is dying. Waiting to hear back on instructions from the customer on if he wants me to pull the motor or just have it sent to AMS. (Motor is an AMS built 2.0)

The haunting mitsu problem is still occuring..... CRANKWALK!!! No one is safe!!

Ive even seen plently of 6bolt's crankwalk. Pretty scary as everyone has claimed the 6bolt is 100% safe from crankwalk. Its even scarier when occuring on Evo's!!

Crankwalk can happen on ANYTHING. DSM's are just famous for it.

+1 on Al's comment

What brand clutch?
Pull-type or push-type?

The whole story needs to be told before assumptions are made. ANY engine that has been abused will have crank walk. These kind of things get overblown with Mitsubishis.

Define "Abuse"

This car was fully built, to be driven. The car was built and tuned at AMS, and no one has done any fiddlejacking on the tune, boost level, etc

Oil was Mobile 1 Syth, unsure on viscosity

FYI: I'm not knocking AMS at all by stating their name in this thread, its purely for background information.

Try searching, massive problem on 2G DSM's, very very similar to the motor in our evos.

Please don't let this thread turn into an AMS bash-fest!

How many miles on this motor since it was built? How much power is it putting out?

I have no reason to turn this into an AMS bash fest. The motor ran fine/great when it left the shop. Being a mechanic, I have a respect for that...not much can be said for the car after it leaves because you dont know who's driving it and how bad they're treating it, etc.

I dont really know how many miles on the motor, its not a terrible lot. The motor has been in the car for a little over a year.

The car was making 420awhp on a 3076 or 81, I dont have all the details, can get more tonight
