Blown Motor
Blown Motor
Some of you already know that I blew my motor last week, and some of you wanted to know how or why it happened. After some inspection and discussion, we think it was the head gasket and studs. The gasket stretched out and allowed coolant to mixed with the oil and in turn break the oil pump. So all in all we are going to see if we could put the engine back to stock if the cams haven't created to much damage, or I'll buy an EVO 6.5 motor w/ turbo and make it work and go from there.
Sorry to hear that. Can you answer a few questions for us?
Do you think it is the HKS 264in/272out that did it, or you think you should've upgraded your retainers and springs as well? Were you floating the cams?
Did you have a raised rev limit?
How hard is it to change the head bolts?
I am planning a to upgrade to an HKS/JUN valvetrain and raise my rev limit up to around 8500-9000.
Thanks!
I hope you get her running soon!!!

I was running 20 psi. To change the head studs is pretty much like changing cams. No I don't think it's the cams but just the fact that I didn't upgrade my head studs. As for the other questions, I'll find out for u.
Hey! Thanks for the answers, but where are you around here!
Did you raise your rev limit? Also, a member here was talking about changing the rod bolts as well because when they were diagnosing his engine when it was getting rebuilt, they seemed to be strained as well.
Lets spank those STis!!! ( I bet you they'll like it, which is why their rear ends are so high off the ground !!! - sorry, had to let that one out
).

Please keep us updated on the status of your engine. We hope its not too bad.
The STi **** are going to have a field day on this, but you did push the motor a lot.
Also let us know if the rods are forged!!! (So we know if we need to get the forged pruven ones in order to keep the boost at 22psi, with a stronger valvetrain of course!).

You can not reuse a head gasket or head bolts. Studs are re-usable.
Like the rod bolt change the head bolts could be done in the same fashion.
Remove one bolt at a time and replace it with a stud/nut. I don't see any reason to remove the intake/exhaust system or a headgasket change unless i'm missing something?
