Driving it normally (below 2.5k rpm while it warms up) is fine. Driving it hard on the other hand on a cold engine is bad. Especially for turbocharged cars.

For me, I usually let it warm up for like 5 to 10 min during the winter and in the summer, I just drive normally until temp goes to normal before I can get on boost.

Normally when you temperature guage starts to move the engine is warm enough to beat it, i keep the RPMs below 3K before the engine has some temp in it.

You need to give it a minute or so, otherwise the car is totally gutless till it starts to warm.

Im sure it doesn't do much, these engines are beasts.

it actually does a lot. if the motor is not at optimal operating temps, the piston rings are not at their optimal sealing point. trying to boost while cold will force fuel into your oil along with eventually wearing down your piston rings.

the ecu does not allow full boost until warm for this reason, which is why it feels "gutless".

do NOT boost or drive above ~3k rpm, like everyone else has mentioned, until the car is totally warm.

Until your car builds oil pressure, the fluids inside the car have fully lubricated all internal parts and the engine is up to the operating temperature, I usually stay out of boost. I let the car idle for a minute before I back it out of my garage. I also allow the transmission to warm up before I do any spirited driving If I drive hard, I let the turbo timer cool the turbo off and shut the car off itself.

My thoughts are to always bring any car to full temp before flogging it!
