Yeah when you run at the track from a dig your supposed to slip the clutch. Also if you not running headsup you shouldn't worry about ur r/t. You can sleep at the green for 5sec if you want. Were u able to drive the car home?

Put it in gear and let it idle and get under the car and see if the driveshaft is spinning, if it's not then you know it's not the rear end. That pretty much narrows it down to the T case since the tranny is spinning and the rear end isn't. Just my redneck trouble shooting! LOL

Great advice!!

So what happens if its NOT the TC and the car ends up rolling with you under it?

I guess Rednecks really do think of the consequences of their actions...

I know I dont have an evo but the same thing applies to my Audi with my AWD. When you snap an axle, the AWD sends the power to the least resistant wheel which obviously isnt doing anything without an axle. The car will run fine and the speedometer will even tell you the car is moving but its not.

I know the transfer cases go more on the Evos though so if everyone else seems to think thats it, Id put my money on it

EDIT: just saw you said the axles look fine, wouldnt hurt to check again tho

ShepTrans does a rebuild, but if you have already shredded it, you can't fix it. Mitsu doesn't sell the ring and pinion separately, the only way to get them is to buy a whole new T-Case (@zzholes). I know because it happened to me.

Shep buys up all the ring and pinion sets and can do rebuilds now...has for a while. You no longer have to buy a whole t-case. I just had mine rebuilt in the last 6 months - was nice and easy. However, he buys sets of 30 at a time and runs through them like hotcakes, so get on his list quickly.

ok so talked to john shepard himself yesterday and told him everything that happened. we're pretty confident its my output shaft. he said if it was my tcase there would still be some kind of movement. so its more than likely the output shaft. since the labor is pretty much the same to do a full tranny rebuild, and id do that in the future anyway, i'm going to opt. for a full shepard tranny rebuild and run their new billet output shaft which is 300 bux more. so all in all it's going to be about a 1300 repair. but...with a shep tranny! car will be down for almost a month because of the busy schedule. maybe i'll take it to the track late this season and try some launches. i'll keep everyone posted. and thnx again for all the responses

Looks like everything worked out in the end . At least your getting a near bulletproof trans and your not spending 3k.
