HELP! something went BOOM
I went to the track this past saturday and on my first attempt to go down the track, my car popped something at the starting line.....
My 2step is set at 6k. I build 13 psi off of 2step...
Light went green, popped the clutch (perfect r/t too!) and then heard a loud BOOM come from under my car. I looked down at my e-brake HOPING it was engaged but no.....something had definately gone wrong.
pushed it off the track and these are our observations:
1. there was no debris on the track (no fluids/metal parts)
2. car starts and idles just fine
3. no noises. no noise at idle or when revved up, in and out of gear. nothing at all
4. clutch feels fine and tranny shifts smoothly
5. all axles seem to be fine. there is no free play and they dont spin by hand
6. with car on, when we put it in gear, the speedometer reads and the needle moves
i have yet to put the car up on jack stands as i have a crappy schedule. these are all observatoins by me and some helpful ppl at the track. one of the techs from AMS even came over and checked it out and said it'd be unlikely the front lsd blew, as they even run the same lsd (04 rs) in their time attack car. he and a few others have suggested center diff or MAYBE output shaft. any and all help is greatly appreciated. thnx in advance for anyones help or opinions

"i might be missing this but does the car run?"
yes. the car runs just fine. but doesn't move! ha
it DEFINATELY isnt a hose or IC pipe.
i can shift through the gears, WITH THE CAR ON, without even using the clutch. when i put the car in gear and rev it up , the car does not move. at all. but the speedometer is reading speed. so the gears in the tranny are spinning but not engaging the center diff. ? F'ING WEIRD
c'mon! someone has to be able to give me a better opinion than a blown IC pipe haha no offense

My vote goes for t-case as well. Also for future information your not supposed to pop off the clutch in these cars when launching. It's a huge shock to the drivetrain when you do it. I'm not a huge drag racer, but when you launch I believe your supposed to lightly let off the clutch until it start to grab and then pop off the clutch, so to speak.
