I would go with the S2's. I went with the S1's and was pleased but I wish I would have gone with more.

I've posted this like 100 times, if you run the s2's you HAVE to have upgraded valvetrain...i would go with s1's if your gonna run the stock head

who cares about the duration....
you better check the lift of the cams...

id go with the s1's
they make a good curve on the stock turbo
its not all about peak numbers guys

Here is the thing, build toward a number and be content.

If you arent looking to make a high revving car that doesnt need over 350whp on pumpgas, the S1's will do it all day long. I made 353whp/315ftlbs (7100rpm) at 21psi on the S1s with a Green.

I personally feel that for anything over that you need more cam. I am currently using the S2 in my car as is Lucas in his VIII (his is a stock IX turbo). I wouldnt go less because they make power with my combo now all the way out to 7800 or so before they really start to feel like they fall off.

I have changed my combo so much I dont have a dyno showing what gains the S2's gave immediately after other than trap speed and boost/octane that was required. This weekend I got my trap even higher than I was and I am still only at 24psi even(really need a different MBC or EBC). I had been at 120 on pumpgas and now I have increased that to 121.5 after switching to E98 at still only 24psi. If I had realised that my boost was still so low I would have upped it, but the track wasnt holding so well as it was off the line (sideways with 275's) so I guess it doesnt really matter at this point.

Comparing this to the S1's where I was 116-117 or so but running 2 more pounds of boost peak tapering to 24 by redline. I think had I been running a consistent 24psi on the S1's it would have been more like 115-116 but I didnt understand WG preload and the MBC then like I do now, so it is what it is.

If 115-116 traps are good enough then do S1's but if you want more the S2's are not anymore violent. You will need the retainers and springs but you already knew that.

We did a set of Kelford "C" cams (272/272) today and they ran decent on the street in the heat. No numbers out of that car yet, but he has a very similar setup to mine other than he is on a stock turbo to my Green.

Other cam choices include (for pure stock turbo cars)-

Cosworth M2 or M3 (depending on if its an VIII or IX)
JUN MIVEC 272
etc.

Cosworth M2's perform well on the stock 9 turbo, with minimal lope.
