a few questions about high boost on stock turbo

so ive got a few questions after some searching and finding nothing,

sorry if this isnt in the right topic, couldnt find one related.

so im highly thinking about running meth soon and throwing the stock turbo up to 30psi, ive got a full tbe, IC piping and intake. i know keeping the stock recurcirlating (sp?) valve is the best for the stock turbo, but since ive got all new piping and running the turbo alot higher psi, would i benefit from a BOV or would i lose power?

The stock BOV has been tested by many and generally starts leaking over 25psi. I would upgrade your BOV if running higher boost to something along the lines of a Forged RS or the like.

I would not recommend the HKS with the stock ecu/mas setup. You need a blow off valve that will recirculate back into the intake otherwise you will encounter running rich/bad idle issues when already metered air is released into the atmosphere and not back into the system. I highly recommend the Forged RS, that is what I am using and so far so good.

i know keeping the stock recirculating valve is the best for the stock turbo

Neither statement is true in the context they are used. I would be wary of your sources in the future.

Ryu's information is all correct.

The Hks SSQ is a great BOV, i would recommend that or the Forge as everyone has said, also any BOV that is not recirculated will experiance some rough idle/rich shifts, however nothing for people to whine about, the name HKS alone assures no whining.

It's not great in the context of this thread. Don't confuse it's ability with the platform. It does NOT work well on an Evo with a stock MAF. The HKS brand name has nothing to do with it whatsoever. Even recirculated, it doesn't work as well as a proper BOV like the Forge RS.

Disappointing.
whys that disappointing, my goal is to get the best BOV for my future setup, i dont care if it sounds like a duck call, or is completly silent, i just personally like the sound of a bov, and was wondering if the forge RS sounds somewhat loud as opposed to a stock one.

i would say disappointing would be me getting the hks ssqv justbecause it is outragously loud, not caring about the idle/stall problems.

i appriciate you giving you and ryus technical advice

Crushing imrpoves its boost-holding capacity, but it's not as good as a Forge RS and can be rendered inoperable if done improperly.

It was disappointing that you mentioned all the sound stuff. You didn't caveat it by saying you wouldn't make your choice based on sound, and there are thousands of threads talking about BOV sound.

ohh ok, i thought he just ment something arrogant by crushing, sorry!

and this thread has nothing to do with the sound, it was a legitimate question, the sound is just kind of a bonus.

again, thank you for answering my technical question, i will be doing some research on different bovs to see which one would be the best for my setup, looking at ryus setup sounds pretty similar to my future setup and if he says he hasnt had a problem with it, neither should i

did a little research, it seems like people have problems with the forge rs not releasing pressure at high speeds when the turbo is spooling, problems such as jittery and shakey.. does anyone with this BOV have this problem? is it the forge rs that does it or every bov??

seems like alot of people are having problems with their forge, so i looked into the greddy type rs, and their having the same problems, except theirs is easily fixable. now i am looking into ARC. if anyone else has any useful advice as to a BOV. please lmk. im doing my research slowly, so anyone that would like to, feel free to share your experiences with your bovs to help me decide what would be best for my setup

PURPOSE OVER PSH

I had a Evo on the dyno the other day that held 30 psi with the stock metal BOV and dejon stop leak kit. No drivability problems like crushing the bov can sometimes create.

It boost leak tested to 34 psi with no leakage.

I think the kit is like $50 or something?
