Clutch slipping, how long does she have?!?!

So I got my evo for a screamin deal, but one of the downsides was I bought if from the kids parents. Kid got his license taken away, and the parents wanted to punish him(sponsored by parents FTL!), so I jumped on the opportunity!

With that said, the parents didnt know JACK about the car, they said that they thought it had a new clutch installed at around 30k (bought it at 32k), but it felt soft to me. So now im at 45k and it slips in 4th if I boost much at all, when you take off you can tell its almost done, but I really want to put a Exedy Twin in it, but I wont be able to afford to buy and install it until the middle of the month. You guys think I can baby the clutch for a couple of weeks? its my dd and I put about 80-100 miles a week on it, so what do ya guys think?

If you're only doing 100 miles a week for 2 weeks, you should make it. Drop the boost down from that 25psi and stay out of boost and you should be just fine

k cool, good thing about my job is their are only two stops between home and where I work and zero hills, the rest is 60mph driving. Looks like ill be driving it the same way I was when I blew my t-case, but like kanyonkid said, ive never got better gas mileage then when I drove it with a busted t-case, lol!

You have plenty of time to drive it carefully.

But my word of advice on the new clutch, unless you plan on going well over 450tq I would go for an exedy stage 1 and lightweight flywheel. Holds plenty of torque, spools fast and best of all, doesn't CHATTER like the twin.

I know a vendor that does SMOKING deals on the stage 1, PM me if you want me to hook you up with him.

Good luck either way!

Drove mine (2006 IX MR) with the stock clutch slipping for three weeks (staying off the boost) before installing an ACT clutch with the streetlight flywheel. And, I love it; holds great, very very close to stock like feel. I was thinking to go with the Exedy Twin, but IMO it's not worth twice as much for what you get. If you are thrifty or on a budget, there are other cost-effective clutches than the Exedy. (IMO) You would not be disappointed with the ACT and know you saved some $$$ that you really didn't NEED to spend.

If you are looking for something cheap go for a ACT, but if you are serious with making power definately get a Exedy Twin. It's about $900 price difference, but it really depends on what you plan to do with your evo.

Well just got off the phone with ETS ( ETS FTW!!!) and they set me up with the HD Sprung 6 Puck. I told Tom what I wanted, which was that I dont mind some chatter, it is my dd but thats not to big of deal, basically a straight shot to and from work. But mostly I wanted something that I could do SOME draggin with not a whole lot, but the occasional TNT or something. So this clutch should be more than enough, here are the specs on it:
http://www.extremeturbosystems.com/M...duct_info.html

So ill have room for more mods because this clutch WILL hold it and right now I dont shift over 7200 anyways, so I dont think ill have to worry about lock out. Ill be sure to post a review on it after its on which should be next friday unless the shop gets an open spot before then.
