Hallman MBC help

My car is tuned on a dyno at 23psi. can i myself "turn-up the boost" at any given moment, just using the MBC, without doing anything else?
at what point in the boost range will i need higher octane gas (i use 93 now)?
thanks

Wouldn't recommend adjusting boost without a tune.

theres not really a point where you NEED race gas. people just run race gas so they can run a moreaggressive tune and get more out of their car. the AMS evo could probably run on 93, it just wont be making near the hp level its at on race gas. it all has to do with tuning..

dont change your boost. if your tuned on 23psi, theres no reason to mess with it.

usually when you start running higher boost such as in the 28-30psi range, you would most likely need to run race gas. As others stated, your car is prob tuned to 23psi on pump gas, so i would not touch the mbc without logging the car at least.

turn it up if you want to blow up your motor

...

there will be absolutely ZERO benefit to turning the boost up past what you are tuned for

same applies for adding race gas it will help suppress knock at high boost levels and run cleaner but if you are not tuned for the boost and fuel you are running you are just wasting your time

so basically, every time i get a sudden urge to make a few more hp (only maybe add 1-2psi), i cant just turn up the MBC, but rather i need to go to my local tuner and have him/her retune the car ??

A couple of comments...

As stated, no you should not just turn up the boost if you are not tuned for it. Spend some time tuning it either doing street pulls or on the dyno if you want more power.

Second, just a helpful hint that your title is terribly misleading. I thought you needed help installing one, not turning one up. It should read "Can I turn up the boost" or something along those lines.

Third, it sounds like you want a dual stage boost controller? One tuned for the most you can get out of your setup (on pump) and the other a conservative tune for about where you are right now perhaps.

Just some thoughts. Don't take any offense from them. Good luck!

I dont know what the other posters are refering about.. but heres my experience.

I am tuned @ 22 psi pump gas... and now I am running 23-24 psi.

SAME 22 PSI TUNE

I have logged my car and have NO KNOCKS.

if you want to push it up a notch to 24psi that be OK... but if you on stock head studs you wouldnt wanna go pass that 24psi margin.. I believe anything over 25 psi will be an issue to your motor if you are still running stock headstuds.

im not sure about your car... all cars are different. if you do end up boosting higher.. make sure you log it and see if u get knocks.. if u do then just turn it down.

That is the point though. You logged and know that you are safe at 24. It doesn't seem he logs, and so can not confirm it is safe to do so. That is why I recommended not turning it up. I did the same as you though, and run 24/25 PSI. But I know it is safe to do so (with a WBO2, logging, knock CEL, etc).

okay and how much hp increase do tyou get from 2psi? probably hardly anything. its just not worth to do it. just keep the car where you get it tuned

oh and your headstud comment is completely wrong...
there are plenty of people running 28+psi with no problems at all on stock head bolts. there is no supporting evidence to your comment at all...

i mean my car is 30psi on stock headbolts.....
