ps. Freddy's green track numbers/boost levels were different from track to dyno. I
guess you can throw that conclusion out of the window.

Until you take the precision .63 out of the car and try a garret gt v-band, you don't know the facts.

Why did you only trap 134 with 620/567?
^ Your missing the point, I want you to take a coffee straw and blow through it as hard as you can. Then take a normal size straw larger in diameter and blow through that. Then you will know the difference in what 94awdcoupe is talking about regardless of the housing. I agree a bigger housing makes more power through the ability to flow better and decrease of back pressure but that is not the point of his post. When you change more than one thing at a time it is hard to pin point where the increase of power really came from. Both of you have a chance at being completely wrong and that is fact.

I would like to see Freddy put the .63 back on with the bigger down pipe and re dyno to see if there is a change. That would be awsome and shut people up from either side of the arguement!

I wasn't missing the point. The proper sized downpipe is a given, but why not start at the heart of the problem instead of making a band-aid for it? I think you see the difference in the size of the exhaust openings on the turbines. The advantages are greater in multiples for an engine with a larger displacement, not to mention the advantages to timing advance when freeing up that much flow in the most confined area of exhaust flow.

It's just turbo basics 101.

I'm not trying to sound slick, just stating the facts. The AMS unit is a good piece, but we can clearly see that there is room to gropw for the OP's combo.

4kinboost, please tell us your quote "I have seen it with my own two eyes" does not refer to the thread above. Hopefully your quote is from swapping on your own car. Then give particulars on that. The thread above can speak for itself. If you want to believe the housing is good for 50hp go right ahead. But dont push it as fact that someone might buy as knowledge. That someone may end up spending south of 800 bucks only to find out it worth 20hp tops.

Yes but who is to say that the downpipe isn't the heart of the problem and the exh housing is? You are also no listening to the fact that AMS has tested the PTE .63 housing to flow as good as the .82 which blows your turbo basics 101 clean out of this discussion. Unless your psychic you have no idea what the heart of the problem was. The only way to settle this is to put the .63 back on and see if there is a loss in power which I doubt there will be.

I recently switched my precision 5 bolt .63 housing to a .82 GT vband as 4kin boost mentioned.. and show an OUTRAGOUS Pickup in Power! And actually a quicker spool.. Here is the break down to explain why The Shop and Junior Highly recommended that change…

When I was running the Stock intake/throttle body, Stock Head, Stock ECU/MAF with my HTA35r/.63 precision Housing.. The car layed down 540 hp and 500 trq with a spike of 30 psi and around 28 psi.. The car ran a 11.1 @132 with a 1.96 60ft. @ 3450lb verified at the track.

Then I decdied to try and tap the HTA35r to see how much power I could make I bolted on the Best Intake available on the Market, Driven Innovative w/75 mm TB, Turbo Trix Head with 1mm over size valves, and AEM EMS. The car picked up basically no power so there was some kind of restriction with the new set up.

So The only part in question with the small .63 housing and 02 housing, WHICH WORKED
BEAUTIFUL BEFORE! Now with the added air flow a new restriction had arouse.. the back housing and 02 housing..

So with 4kinboost’s help I got my hands on the Vband .82 and 3inch 02. Now the car with 30 psi makes 600 whp.. So I picked up right about 60 HP and spool actually got better with the bigger Housing and 02.. It was a huge restriction.. but it is all relative to the Supporting mods you have. Hope this sheds some light on this subject.

As always..it’s not the best parts/most expensive parts that makes power.. it is COMBINATION COMBINATION COMBINATION

^ Very true, but the point of arguement is that you changed two things not just one, so niether of the two can be pointed out as the sole culpret as 4kinboost suggests as being the turbin housing. I guess this is a usless discussion unless there was a way for you to use your 3in o2 housing with the .63 exh. housing.

I thought he said that he changed intake manifold and ported the head and with the .63 housing there was basically no pickup. as if the engine was bottlenecked by the housing.

he then changed to the .82 housing and thats when he picked up power....so it wasnt bottlenecked anymore...

We have been playing with turbo combinations for over 15 years. Freddy's car was a great example to the OP. Yes, it was my own 2 eyes since I'm the one who took the picture of the turbine housings and held the both of them with my own 2 hands. Have you ever held the 2 together and seen the differences for yourself? A WORLD apart.

Again, now your opinions are turning into misinformation. Since it costed under $150 bucks in used parts and fabrication to pick up 60awhp. I think it was worth the time and investment.

I wish I could be there the day you decide to make the swap and see the gains for yourself. COMBINATIONS are everything.

By the way, u never answered my question.

Someone can read!!

You guys can argue that the housing didn't make a difference. Fact is that without switching to the other housing we would still have to start with a small outlet on the down pipe and then step up in size. If you don't think this is a restriction then so be it. It really doesn't matter. Like some one stated this is a forum to share information and or experiences with things. Take it for whats its worth to you and move on.

As for Jerry (94awdcoupe) posting about Freddys Dyno Numbers.. You should have copied over the other replies to the "weak" track performance of his green... Freddy, 4k, and myself all posted up that the boost was down and the car had a problem toward the end of the pass. You could also use his 540 = 133mph traps in his 3300+lbs car.. who cares though, its just a number...

He swtiched out the hotside and added a 3in 02 housing. Everyone must remember some of the HP and spool gains come from the 02 housing, not just the hotside alone.

Now for the thread starter, sell your ams kit and buy a tubular kit with the 4 bolt .82 housing.

This picture is very misleading, tricking people into thinking the two housings are vastly different in size. Try putting the exhaust housings equal length away from the camera and take that picture again.
