Reving the stock bottom end (calling the fast cars)

Who is reving the stock motor .... Please list what mods if any to the valvetrain, and obviously your rev limit. Anyone have issues with oil cavitation or any other common issues/ known things to look for.

I had stock head/bottom end 37r @ 509whp for over a year before going to a stroker. Tons of racing, Daily Driven, put a ton of miles no issues at all. Revved to 8200rpms.

Find a good tuner, thats the most important part.

I spoke to Chris @ AMS and he said it is really a crap shoot with rod bolts on EVOs. some evos are lucky and can rev to 8500 all day, some can't. the problem is finding out if one of your evos is one of the lucky ones. With any turbo that makes power past 8krpm you should build your bottom end anyway.

Evo 9 turby, stock head, stock block, hks 272/272

Rev to 8k, but doesnt make power past 7.

Its not always about how high can u rev, its whether the motor will make the power revving that high. If i installed BR 272 the car will make power till 8k

For every 1 Evo successfully revving above the stock limiter on a completely stock bottom end, I bet there is several that have tossed a rod from losing a rod bolt from attempting the same high RPM use. It likely won't happen the first or second time you take it to 8000 RPM. But it will likely slowly stretch the rod bolt until the nuts loosen up. Lose your bolt preload and it's only a matter of time before the bolt fails from cyclic stress.

It’s my opinion that you don’t need to rev beyond the stock limiter to make a very quick car. Revving above the stock limiter though is just asking for a failure. I’d rather run 30+ PSI and limit the revs to 7500 then run 25 PSI to 8000+ RPM.

I snapped a rod in half, rod bolts stayed in tact just fine.

3076, 29psi on meth, Head studs and rod bolts, springs/retainers, stock intake and mild 272 exhaust cam.

Rev to 8K+ to trap out in 4th. Have spun it close to 9k with a misshift. Holding together fine so far. YMMV.

8,500rpm every friday night with just cosi 272's in the head. 30psi from the turbo and 5ish at the wheels. 6,680 miles on the motor. 5,000 at the 500whp level.

Well i have Cossie 272's (the earliest batch for the ix, when they had the trigger wheel issues) Cossie recomends springs and retainers if you rev these cams beyond the stock rev limit. My car doesn't start to make real power till 5k so the extra revs would help me alot. Nick from DTM tuned it, I beleive relatively conservatively because on 93 pump and 100% denatured he left the boost at 26 psi and used the alky as more of a knock supressant as well as adding some timing. it made 428 on a mustang dyno in a 90 degree dyno room. So I guess my question is do you guys think I would be ok to just bump the rev limiter up to 8k ( I have a tactrix cable )

PS * I am using an sc6152RE. It almost identical to a 35r, and actually a slightly larger turbine

Stock block
Head with GSC 280/280's (11.2-11.5mm lift)
Rev to 8500
3076R > 482whp with meth for about 6kmiles. Stock rods and pistons came out mint when I built the motor up for the big turbo upgrade.
