Angry Having Clutch Probs Need Help

OK So I am drving to work and and the Evo is going into every gear fine the problem is that when I give it gas to speed up the RPM's raise about 1-2 maybe three thousand before the car starts to pull like something is not catching (clutch?) like I said I can get into every gear. Now I tried this in every gear and when I got to work which is about 6 miles if that I could smell the clutch. So that is why I am thinking well it is the clutch so if this has happenedto anyone else please let me know if it was the same symptoms or of you have had the same symptoms and it was not the clucth what was it.

Also I have heard two different things about clutch management. I have heard to push the clutch in ALL THE WAY and I have heard to push it in just enough to wear it engages and disengages the gears. And both methods will make the clutch last longer.

Need help. I also found a shop in columbus GA that will install my Exedy and Flywheel for 350. Does that sound like it is a good price.

Yes, you need a clutch. $350 installed is a bargain, but I would question their familiarity with Evos, especially since yours is ACD equipped.

+1 on $350. Make SURE they don't use some generic crap one. Go with OEM or another reputable brand. If you're going for power, I've heard ACT has issues at high rpms. Personally I'm a firm believer in OEM if you're under 400whp.

$350 sounds like they've never done an Evo clutch. Make sure they know it's an AWD car or your likely to get suprised by a bigger bill when you pick your car up. ~$500 is the norm.

Make sure the shop as everyone else is saying to make sure they are familar with the EVO's specifically. I paid $580 for installation and fluids. As for a clutch i would use the Fidanza 3.2 and lightened flywheel which also comes with the throw out bearing. I use the same setup for my evo which is my DD, i drive 100% in the city.

Ive had 2 ACT clutches neither had problems at high rpms.. probably driver error in the most cases...ACT is good.. Only get OEM if you can afford the ridiculous prices..

My OEM was $350 (little discount)... which was cheaper than an ACT. I'm only going off what others have said about ACT. I haven't ever drove a car with one. RallyDSM (who helps me with my car), used them exclusively in his rally cars. I'm sure they are good but I've heard about this high rpm lockout by many people on these boards

i had a problem something like this so i replaced my clutch with the ACT HDSS and the 13lb flywheel from ACT and i hated it at first i though it was the worst thing ever....then i adjusted it so it caught kinda high and there was more rod travel into the clutch master cylinder and it was better...not perfect...but alot better....i wish i had the money at the time to go exedy twin disk but you get what you can you know...my car is so unpleasant to drive im beginning to not like it because my third gear has the worst grind ever....

350 sounds pretty good for a clutch replacement. I have been quoted 600 dollars.
