Do I really need a tune?

Would I need a tune if my only mod is a LICP and drop in filter? I have an otherwise stock IX.

Not really.... But there are some really good gains to be had. Youre looking at around a 30whp gain.

Cheers!

Agree with 4WS, the stock tuning done by Mitsu definitely has room for improvement/fine tuning.

No. Youll get more bang for your buck from a tune than either LICP of Drop in

the 30awhp gain he is referring to is from the tune.. not the mods.. for those mods .. you dont need a tune.. the main advantage of going with a new licp is you gain some spool up and some power. but it is minimal.. a drop in .. will also give you minimal gains..

If you don't plan on getting any more mods, then yes, you need a tune. You'll gain some great power and be way more reliable than the stock flash.

If you plan on getting more mods, I'd wait until after you pick up a few more mods (like TBE, MBC, etc.).

Does doing a licp and drop in filter without a tune add power?

Semi-off topic.

So let's say someone has an aftermarket equal length manifold along with an fp red and a tbe. Would it be mandatory to get a tune or would it be okay to drive around in the streets and do occasional pulls?

Yes. I would expect the gains to be small, yet measurable.

Reduction in boost dropoff, increase in boost level, ignition and fuel table optimization will all improve performance.

I already have the filter in and the LICP is just sitting around in my garage. I plan on doing a TBE, UICP, EBC, and intake after christmas when I'll have some free time on my hands. Will I be safe untill then with no tune with just the LICP and filter? My car is a DD and will rarely see a track day but I like to run it hard through a gear or two while driving to a from work.....will I be ok with those mods and no tune with the way I drive?

Does the same apply if I were to add an intercooler/upper+lower pipes?

I'm planning to get cams maybe 1-3 weeks after the intercooler/pipe install. Plans are to tune it after the cam install.
