Piston choice
The Mahle's were really hard to find about 1.5 years ago. I tried really hard and was on a waiting list for 2-3 months before I gave up. Numerous vendors too.
If I remember right, they were an "off the shelf" piston. Nothing special about them other than light weight. At least that is what I read and more reputable evo engine builders lead me to believe. Lots of high end race cars use them in the ALMS series (including the AUDI TDI LMP1 prototype) which is sorta why I wanted them.
I bought the BR racing ones cause they were proven. JE Pistons are also used in Nascar engines as well (I dont suscribe to that series of racing)
When its all said and done for me, I will have an extra core, pistons, rings and rods sitting around. I cant decide whether to sell them or assemble a spare short block. Maybe I will get around to shipping it to BR and let them build me my spare. That way I can taste both.....

Im sure finding the pistons will not prove to be to difficult as Me and JB both have made a few good friends with very close ties to Mahle.
I still have my doubts about the Mahle's however as the weight is only a part of the equation.

I would highly rec. Arias pistons. They are the only pistons I use. I have tried Ross,JE , CP and I think they all have there place and application. I have a great working relationship with Arias pistons and we have developed the pistons to a pretty high degree of performance and reliability.
In an application such as yours I would call and talk to the piston manu. and explain your appl. you deffinately need a custom piston.
I also sent you some more ideas in the return of the pm you sent. Give me a call if you haveanymore questions.
