engine blow back on idle if oil cap off
Is it normal in the IX's for there to be air blowing out the filler cap on idle if the cap is removed? If so, how much?
A mechanic said this is "chuffing"and is a sign of a worn engine. (You should be able to put a piece of paper over the cap hole and it should not blow off). Do these engines do this or is mine on its way out? Not using oil, nor blowing smoke and it runs nice.
Help anyone?

Thanks.
It isnt abnormal, you always get blow by past the rings, this pressure builds in the crankcase/valvecover. It is very important to vent this pressure and not let it build up in the motor, it robs power by adding to the rotating resistance of the crank by pushing back on the bottoms of the pistons and will also push oil out past the turbo seals if it gets really high (greater than 3-4psi). Retaining your factory vent from the valvecover to the air intake for the turbo is a good step in the right direction, this actually maintains a vacuum in the crankcase while under full power.
