proof of break in of an engine

I always thought the proper way to break in an engine is to take it to redline.
now we have proof, at least with nissian and its new GTR.
I quote " A total of 44 minutes of operation from idle to holding at redline for 10 minutes provides instant assuarance of lasting durability."
like people have said. drive it like you stole it right away when you buy a new car.
thats what i did.

I read from car and driver in their 40K update of their 03 evo that they experienced barely any performance lost and consumes minimal oil while others who couldn't wait to boost to redline are having ring sealeage problems.

For what its worth, out of my own curiosity, I broke my new engine in for 1000 miles -no boost. Before starting I checked compression... It was all over the place like +- 15psi. At 70 miles I was seeing 175-180psi on MY tester. By the time it got to 700 mles it was 190-195psi on my tester. I have 2300 miles on it compression is still 190-195. I did gain a solid 10psi over during my break in and the conditions were pretty much the same both times the tests were done. Idk if that means if you go beat the hell outa it immediatly it doesnt mean compression wont go up. Frankly I'm leaning more towards driving it nice for ~1000 miles, and changing the oil very often... On my next motor I'll try the other way.

The reason you gained compression is because the rings sealed.
