Convince me to not pull the motor and build it...

I THINK i can pull the motor. i have the compressor, heated garage, big jack and jack stands, cherry picker and engine stand. I installed my cams by myself and helped a buddy pull and reinstall his 6 bolt in his first gen. the hardest part was hooking the wiring harness back up. the harness was shot from the begining so it didn't help any. I'd like to build it over the winter and i have the funds to do it. I'm only 18 but i have a few friends who'd help me (one has a 700hp 2.1L2nd gen).

On a scale of 1-10 how hard is it to pull? I won't be installing the rebuild kit, just pulling the motor and trans out in one peice...

IMO its not that hard really. it just takes time, so be patient and make sure everything is diconnected before yanking it.

if u pull it from the top, u just have to keep the motor at a real crazy angle so the tranny can come out as well.

I don't see why not since you have all of the odds favored on your side.

Pulling it easy, getting it all back together, not so much.

You'll never get experience unless you do it. That's why my motor is just getting finished from a full build I did by myself.

+1 On taking the tranny and motor out at the same time. It will have to be at a crazy angle but I think its a lot faster when we did mine.

Hardest part is getting the trans back together if leaving it in the car. Drop everything out the bottom, subframe and all.

You asked for it, so here goes...

Dont do it. You will f** it all up. Bolts will be in the wrong place, youre probably gonna put it in upside down and backwards if you try this yourself.

Oh....it costs way to much and your hands will get dirty. Your nails will have black crud under them and you will stink like engine oil.

drop it all as one from the bottom: engine, transmission, transfer case, steering rack

Don't be scared, do it.
I did my own SR20DET swap into my 240sx (my first car ever) after only owning it for 4 years, and having only done basic maintenance until then.
But when you say "build" your engine, do you mean doing everything yourself, or just removing the engine, having someone else build the block, and then reinstalling it yourself?

If you really want to learn something build the motor yourself. I rebuilt my broken wrx tranny myself. Hrs of research and lots of reading the shop manual gave me confidence to replace all the broken parts myself. I have been doing lots of research on building motors and getting opinions from people also. Nothing like the satisfaction of saying, " yeah I built it myself."
